I like Not love Gold
But when I 1st heard the song, it blew me away aswell, the lyrics are great. But i feel compared to some of his other work, its just okay, but still a nice tune "How Can I Stand To..Stay Where I Am? Poor Butterfly Who..Dont Understand." P

Kickass track and it's totally killer live! When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

it's too over the top for me. it's a failed attempt at making a purple rain type song imo

I find Gold and just about everything on The Gold experience much too cheesy. Not one of my favorites. [Edited 7/15/11 23:20pm]

Love Gold and pretty much that whole era, this is a killer tune, i too remember it on the radio, but it was the crappy edit which took out the killer guitar solo. I think Chris Evans made it his record of the week when he did the breakfast show and trying to get evertyone to buy it to get it to number 1. It got to 10 i think. "Gold" has been meaningful in my life as an admirer of Prince's work. He grabbed my attention and I was mesmerized start to finish. But I felt something much deeper going on inside that made my heart and soul sing at the same time, in the same octave. Something that'd never happened to me before listening to any song.
And there were a few moments where I'd listen to the song and it made me feel better about something I was going through. College was a time of self-discovery, trying to figure out who I was and what I wanted in life. I'm still working on that but for minutes after listening to it I'd have clarity and be fine with myself as I was that just made me feel good. Listening to "Gold" is a different experience each time and it tells me what I need to hear, so I refer to it as my "soul tattoo"... the one Prince song tattooed on my soul for all eternity had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone
