Has Prince ever made any comments about Lady Gaga and his perception of her talent/skills? I read an interview from a while back that said Lady Gaga and her producer had "lengthy" discussions about Prince and how they (I suppose) were crafting her image to be similar to his....

She has a talent for marketing herself and drawing attention but is also serious about her music. Prince in his bikini briefs is not all that different than Stefani in her thongs and see thru clothing. Creating "controversy" is what worked for him, and what works for her.

A lot of singers out there don't have much of an image going on, where they are doing some over the top "rock star" stuff, and then when they're done, can take all that crap off and chill. She's talked about keeping the two worlds separate, and when she's with her family, is just Stefani Germanotta, helping out with the dishes and cooking what her mama makes her.

I'm pretty sure Prince's relationship with his mom was the same way. And I'm sure we'd all love to see Thanksgiving photos, just to see if he was dressed up the same way he'd be on stage.

Madonna's given her space for a while because her daughter's a fan, and never commented on how "Born This Way" sounds a lot like "Express Yourself" but they both started off playing the clubs in NYC in "real bands" and the only thing Prince could knock her on is needin a collaborator to write her songs.

She knows a collab with Lady Gaga is going to be an instant hit. It'll happen in due time though.

She played with Yoko's Plastic Ono Band in a theater she made no money off of. She sang with Elton and held her own. That's pretty intimidating for someone who's still pretty new, but it validates their talent. You can see some of the old clips of her and see and hear she has talent.

She went on SNL, made people laugh, and they want her back. She's one of the best entertainers out there, and I think she's going to become a better songwriter in time, and not rely on gimmicks as much.

Back in '83, no one thought Madonna was anything more than a summer hit with "Holiday". In '85, she had her wedding dress she was crawling around in, and that was her second album. Not a lot of people have a big debut album the way she did. But because she's also got the avant-garde thing going on, she's got a lot of avenues to take her Little Monsters with her on.

This looks like she was paying homage to Prince, Madonna, and Michael Jackson (or maybe just the 80's in general). I wouldn't be surprised if that's what she was going for.

Yeah, I think that can be said about Rihanna too--she is such a talentless hack for the braindead lol...so why the heck did Prince play clips from Rihanna songs at his W2A tour when she is clearly a studio artist?

I agree. I think that he plays those songs because he is just playing what is current; I know that he also plays Beyonce songs. Also, I think he is showing her some love because she is performing Darling Nikki on her tour, which I hear is a high point in her show.

She has an extreme visual style, however it doesn't make her music original at all. Her song writing and vocal style has some personality. But her over produced industri music is the same as everything else selling right now, and no way did she create that trend. Ever since Timbaland started doing this club oriented house trance rnb rap pop shit, weve had folks like david guetta and black eyed peas and millions of other copies that have ruled the music scene doing basically the same thing for atleast 6-7 years now.

Beyonce is better than Lady Gaga vocally? On what planet? Certainly not this one! Beyonce yoddles and screams, totally irritating hack....Lady Gaga actually seems to have a better voice,IMO.

You really think so? Yikes! lol I think Lady Gaga is good at masking the fact that she actually has a pretty AVERAGE voice. Her voice is totally generic and doesn't stand out at all. Nothing special. She doesn't have a wide range and is only slightly better than someone you'd find at your local Karaoke bar.

Beyonce is 10X the singer Gaga is imo.

Sorry guys but B does not have the vocal talent of GaGa. Beyonce has a decent voice but come on really? I went to The Monster Ball in April and GaGa sounded fantastic. Her voice was strong and so energetic. Beyonce is just ok whatever. Still these two are like apples and oranges. Just too different to really be compared.

Maybe, but at least agree that we should add Vanity, Appollonia, Bria, Shelby et al to your list and its sentiment??

Except, of course, the part about appealing to the masses!!

visually she's breaking every rule, to the extreme. reminds me of someone we know lol

she can also rock that piana, sing like a giant, and her songs are about much more than the usual 'i love a boy' kindergarten themes.

she's not my cup of tea over-all, but she's way more talented and creative than most in that scene.

she rips the pants off all those bland slow-song 'trying to be cool' indie artists who rely on their hippy clothes to sell their vibe.

i can see why this generation likes her. she dares to be totally different, not just another stereotype, or symbol of mediocrity.

whilst some of her creations border on distortions, she didnt lose my attention for a moment.

she mentioned when she was young she was bullied a lot and some guys and girls even threw her in a dumpster.

good on her for not letting nasty people break her spirit down into a people pleasing artist.

she's gaga and she's honest. not trying to front. just putting it out there.

i can dig that. good luck to her. she's got my vote.

I really like your post. lol You're really giving it to us no holds barred.

All of them are talentless? I'd really only have Britney and Rihanna as the most "talentless". I'm no fan of Bieber but at this point I'm gonna say its too early to completely say so I'll exclude him for now. That being said:

Gaga is a classically trained musician who happens to make pop music because she wanted to be a pop star. Look up her performances with just her and a piano, seriously.

Usher was good up to Confessions then fell off after.

Beyonce is a good singer who tries too hard.

But they're not as "talentless" as you may think.
