Another ONAL thread I have been listening to a lot of Prince's shows since purchasing One Night Alone Live! One thing I want to state first...all the shows I have heard from him have been great...he's always an entertaining performer. BUT, the more I hear the older material, the more I like ONAL. In fact I think its his BEST live album. Here is why I think this:
He's grown SO much as a musician since the 80's, and I think his current band is the best & most talented musicians he's ever played with (Definately better than The Revolution...I listened to some Parade shows recently...and was thinking how much more those shows would have rocked with the CURRENT band). I like his interacting with the audience now. Think of how impersonal SOTT & Lovesexy shows were. They were TOO coreoghraphed(sp?). Lovesexy especially...could he even SEE the audience? Remember how huge that stage was? Now I think that TRC material isn't near as strong as his 80's output...BUT I have appreciated it and have listened to it MORE since hearing ONAL. The live versions enhance the studio versions. This was the case with some 80's songs but a few of them (especially Lovesexy tunes) were weak live (I No, Glam Slam, Lovesexy, I Wish U Heaven). Anyone agree? ONAL best live show on CD? | |
