Does anyone collect "first pressing" and or rare Prince CD's?

And what would you look for, for an "Purple Rain" CD that was actually manufactured in 1984?

Or an "Around the world in a day" CD that was actually manufactured in 1985??

Do you collect different "CD variations" of the same album??

OK, I see everyone's a little "shy" on this topic (no pun intended!), so I'll start:

I have three copies of Purple Rain on CD (so far):

The BMG Music club version.

The late, great "Columbia House" music club edition"

...and the Japanese second "pressing", (20P2 2612).

As for "Around the world in a day", I have two copies:

The BMG Music club edition,

and a rare, early Japanese pressing (Japan for USA: was probably housed in the "longbox", however I have only the CD, not the packaging).

I guess no one is shy, but yo ask a lot.

First, what released country do you mean ??

USA, then start collecting the longboxes.

There is a whole bunch of different releases from each album, not only the ones you are talking about.

Maybe you should go to www.moquake.com, go to the collectors forum, and ask this question. On the Org, your post will get lost within a day, and you will never have your answer

Good luck, and welcome to the world of collecting Prince

I only collect different variations of the same cd if it includes tracks that are not on the original cd, for example a lot of the Japanese maxi singles had extra tracks that were not included on the standard UK/USA single pressings.

I was never really interested in collecting the same vinyl or cd from a dozen different countries if they all contained the same tracks. That said said I do have quite a lot of standard Japanese cd and vinyl.

I'm interested in the music within, not half a dozen records that all have the same tracks but might have slightly different covers/labels or something.

Good luck with your collecting, but beware, it can become a bit like a sickness.....hehe.

I only collect it for the music if there is something different on it. I dont care much for whichever pressing or cover.
