Why does Prince perform "kiss" and "little red corevette" but not any of his other sexual songs? WTF? Little Red Corvette is a sexual song, it just has a subliminal message in it. Kiss is a sexual song as well. so why is it acceptable and "madsex", "Sex in the summer" or even "darling nikki" arent????? Little red corvette is just as sexual as "erotic city" Or is prince only singing them because he is expected to since they're some of his biggest hits? I STAN and SLAY for Prince LOL.

Ummm....maybe because those are hits and he's playing the hits for the casual fans who come to his concerts.

Agree. I don't think people wanna hear "Sex In The Summer" or "Mad Sex".

"Little Red Corvette" is sort of cautionary though. Telling a girl she has to slow down because she has so many lovers, yet he finds her irresistable? I don't think it affects his value system; neither do a lot of his songs. You can sing about a girl being hot or sing about sexuality with the one you love. I also think it has to do with being aware there's kids in the audience and doesn't want to upset parents who spent money bringing them to his show. The older a singer gets, the creepier a bluntly sexual song can sound coming from them. AC/DC have a lot of double entendre songs but they're just out there singing the oldies, and in the singer's case, a lot of those songs weren't songs he wrote.

Yeah, particularly if you're ageist.

It seems to me that he's more concerned with explicit language. He might not curse anymore but the songs are still very sexual, which is hypocritical.

Yeah, thank god he played to only adults on the Purple Rain Tour.
Oh wait...
(Here's a revolutionairy idea: if people don't want their kids to hear Prince sing dirty songs at concerts, DON'T TAKE THEM TO PRINCE CONCERTS. For fuck's sake, he's the guy who's at least partially responsible for the creation of the PMRC and warning stickers on albums. If I buy a house next to the airport, I have to expect to hear the sound of planes 24/7.) © Bart Van Hemelen

Yeah, just like that "artichoke" bullcrap. It's still swearing, even if you don't use a "bad word". It's about the INTENT.
But he's a religious dude, so hypocrisy is a feature, not a bug. © Bart Van Hemelen

thats weird. U heard him say she-ot. Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

He does play others live, I've heared some just this week (during 2 shows). He's also played Cream, Shhh, When We're Dancing Close And Slow, Bambi, Peach, Joy In Repetition, ...

You're bringing up 30 year old shows when he was much younger and creating attention through shock value. Purple Rain was a rated R movie, but it was getting so much radio play and none of the songs were really "bad" except for Nikki. Tipper wasn't really after Prince, all it did was make her go "what else are kids listening to?"
Gwen Stefani had a HUGE teenage following and she cursed up a storm plenty at her No Doubt shows. Madonna was pretty tame except for a few f-words, the only controversy she faced was giving the Gypsys props at a Romania show. Pink swears a lot... and I'm pretty sure we can name a lot of top 40 artists who kids like that got the advisory sticker on their music. Some bands you expect some swearing to happen.
All PMRC did was prevent people from carrying their music at Wal Mart, even though Trent Reznor pointed out they carry violent video games and rated R movies... why they get a pass and music doesn't made no sense to him.
I never thought of Prince's songs as all that dirty, just more blunt about it than others might have been. There's albums of music that took being an adult to understand, not because of strong language, but just stuff about life and relationships that takes on meaning. I don't think anyone could listen to Dylan's "Blood on the Tracks" and get something out of it until they're in their mid 20s and been through a relationship that left them hurt. And I'm sure Prince has some songs that took on a different meaning the older they got.

What was edgy in 1985 when he got in the list of the PMRC is real tame in 2011.

I totally disagree,
Men especially are allowed to be sexually open into old age. It's just more recent that older women are being viewed as sexually acceptable.
I've never thought of an older singer that I like being seen as creepy when they sing a bluntly sexual song.
James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Rod Stewart are singer who sang or gave very sexually charged songs/shows and they women when crazy.
Women have always seen older men as attractive
