Happy? Birthday 20Ten

A year ago today (July 10th), Prince released 20Ten to select European newspapers.

A year on from then I still don't like it really, I do like Future Soul Song, as for the rest......neutral

What are your thoughts on this album after 1 year, do you like it better or any worse than before?

Fairly pleasant to listen to, but in all honesty nothing to write home about.

A good lil' "background" album.

Nothing impressive, but if you're doing a tedious task at home or work, this is a good album to play to.

I like Future Soul Song, Lavaux, Compassion, Beginning Endlessly, etc.

Actually, I think the whole first half of the album is pretty good. The only song I get into toward the end is Laydown.

time flies.

I think it's a strong album and like it even more today. I like all songs on the album except for Laydown. Compassion, Lavaux and Act Of God are the songs I listen to the most. Starting with 3121 Prince has managed to make a strong series of albums these last years.

I love 20ten. I still listen to it often on my Ipod. Like others said, it's the cd MPLSound should have been. I hope his next cd will be what 20ten should have been.

I still listen to it and like it, it's a solid album. At first I liked Laveux and wasn't so keen on Sticky Like Glue but they've swapped around now. I love everything else. Oh, except Sea Of Everything, that's the worst track since Jughead I think lol.

It's the album that really opened the beginning of my fascination to Prince. I remember someone giving a review of the album on Youtube, and I started to listen to each song after they broke down their personal review of the songs. I enjoyed thoroughly "Beginning Endlessly" and to my surprise the whole album took me IN! I can listen to 20Ten with ease, and it's a great album to kill time with. The quality of each sound is sheer perfection. It's like you are in the studio, so the production is flawless! I listen to all the songs pretty much; when I feel the songs speaking to me; with the exception of Act of God & Everybody Loves Me. LOL. I do love the work of these songs though! Lately listening to "Everybody Loves Me" I realize the production in terms of instruments; reminds me of his earlier work; which is flawless...The lyrics are whack as heck, YET still it's not as lame as I thought it was when I first heard it.

The standouts on the album are exceptional which for me included "Future Soul Song, "Lavaux", "Walk In Sand", "Beginning Endlessly", "Sticky Like Glue...(If ONLY the rap section was cut out completely! Haha"). I manage to find these songs in repetition in my head while listening to them now. It brings me to the place that eye started to see the genius in this man. This album is somewhat like a 1 year anniversary of me being a Prince fan, the more I think I about it. I feel as if I have been a fan all my life..Like I grew up with him, because of the connection I have with his music, but it was not always this way. LOL. It started with the intrigue of this and the cover art he wore on his outfit during the BET awards when they honored him. Eye remember seeing him & remembering vague images of PR and what I remembered of him when I was young...BUT it wasn't until this album I started a heavy intrigue and respect for him. I appreciate 20Ten for these reasons more or less. SO It's Happy 20Ten for me in terms of the memory attached! I would not call the album FANTASTIC ALL TOGETHER, But I am not here to review anything, as I already did reading over this...Haha.

BUT I would call it FANTASTIC in that; it provides heaps of joy for me to hear them and remember the time that created my admiration for him!

Peace & love....

WOW..Long Tangent I went on here..lol

Ugh! What an awful beginning to Prince appreciation. But whatever. I guess it doesn't matter what brought you there, as long as you're there. lol

As I'm sure you've done by now, heavily invest in collecting his 70s-1990 albums FIRST, and don't forget the live shows and outtakes. Once you take all that in, you'll probably be like, "20what??" Lol!

In my opinion, Prince started a series of interesting albums with The Rainbow Children, some of them actually quite impressive, and 20ten has brought that series to an end. It's a mediocre album, although songs like Compassion, Beginning Endlessly and Lavaux are enjoyable. That said, I just hope he keeps on recording new albums, as there's always something interesting in them.

God this album really was a whole new low for Prince. I hope this album is Prince's second Graffiti Bridge and this isn't a sign of things to come. There have been times I have been embarrassed to be a prince fan, but only recently has it been because of the music.

I remember the good old days where Prince would make kick ass albums and then do goofy stuff to sabotage himself (Change his name to a weird gliff, wear an assless jumpsuit, convert to fundamentalist religions) But now the music IS what's embarrassing.

Does Prince have another 1999 in him? No. Does Prince even have another Diamonds and Pearls in him? No. But Prince does have another 3121 in there. (PS all you'all who hate 3121 and love MPLS and LotusFailu3r can kiss my purple ass!)

Now Prince is (once again) retiring from making new music, and I hope he takes this chance to craft a really good album effort.

I was leaked a few days early and was all over the deadnet in a few hours. I had it on the Thursday or Friday the 8th or 9th. and had made a few copies for people I knew liked Prince. But then after a few listens I was all like Meh.... and I went back to the 80s prince and Led Zep.
