Prince Is The Greatest Of All-Time I'm sorry, but Prince is the greatest ever. I said it like that because some people migh say James Brown, Elvis, Hendrix or even Mozart are better than him.
He's the most interesting artist ever. I tell all my friends "until you listen to all of Prince albums, he's the greatest ever".
People get so caught up on his image, that they forget the music. When ever I have a Prince vs you know who debate, I always say, "Bro, go check out 1999 and Sign O' The Times".
Prince is just insane though, I love to tell them that Prince was the cause for the "Parental Advisery" sticker.
I love that man. | |

You won't get any argument out of me. This is a independent and unofficial Prince Fan community site so we all come here and are fans in varying degrees. I say P is the 'Greatest of All Time' becuz he introduced me to his MPLSoUND. He incorporated and made New Wave, Funk, Rock and Soul music 'his'. I didnt' even like 'Slow Jams' or Ballads until I got into P's music. Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

I don't think this guy agrees. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Prince is good but he is not the greatest ever. To each their own though. I can think of 10 right off that are better but Prince is good. He had a couple of GREAT albums but most of his music is only mediocre to me. His good stuff is great though.
My top 10
1. Elvis Presley 2. Michael Jackson 3. The Beatles 4. George Clinton/Parliament/Funkadelic 5. Jimi Hendrix 6. The Rolling Stones 7. Aerosmith 8. U2 9. Buddy Guy 10. Led Zeppelin
I have all of Prince's stuff and I really do like him. I do think he is over-rated though. He had his big break in the 80s and early 90s has been living off of that for a while now. Purple Rain and 1999 are definate 5 star albums. Sign, symbol, D&P, batman and ATWIAD are all solid 4 star albums to me with the rest being 3 or below. It a good resume for sure but not strong enough for consideration of the greatest of all time in my opinion.
Now as far as live performers he is up there My top five that I have seen
1. Michael Jackson - there is simply no better show than this 2. Buddy Guy - best guitarist and killer showman!! Hendrix's idol and mentor. nuff said 3. Victor Wooten and the Wooten Brothers - OMG!! 4. Prince and the NPG91-95/Revolution(new prince sucks live) 5. Weird Al - just pure fun and a GREAT Show!!

Prince sucks live now? Don't know about the greatest artist ever but he's there or thereabouts on the list of greatest living live performers. Saw him on Sunday and the guy is still awesome, one of the best shows I've seen from him outside of an aftershow. RIP

Wholeheartedly agree. Whilst much of his output over the past 15 years or so has not been to my tastes (as much as earlier stuff), the fact that he still manages to cover such a broad spectrum of musical genres and with such ease shows how much better he is than anybody else.
In terms of the music that somebody puts out then obviously it is an objective thing when saying 'this song is better' or not. But when it comes to the raw talent required to write, play, produce and have such tight artistic control over such a wide spectrum of different types of music, then I'm afraid objectivity (to a degree) goes out of the window.
It is a fact, not an opinion, that Prince is a better musician than most (probably all) who are in the charts today. There may be better guitarists, better bass players, even people who write catchier and perhaps more complex songs. But the fact that Prince can do everything and do it all at an incredibly high level, is what makes him the greatest of all time for me.

I'm talking about solo acts.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I can see him in the top5 solo acts. He would probally be my number five solo act(maybe). Its tricky there though because my favorite albums by him are with a group. Purple Rain, Diamonds and Pearls, symbol album, Gold and Chaos and Disorder. Not necisarilly in that order but those are my top 5 Prince albums, all with a group so I dont know where I would rank him as a solo artist. His solo albums honestly are not that great to me. They see to lack quite a bit for my taste. Only exception would be 1999 but that is only one of alot of albums solo. Even then though, 1999 had a lot of other musicians playing on it.

Woah! I know it's your opinion, but how is Dirty Mind,Sign O' The Times,Controversy,Prince and The Black Album not great?

Yes I do think he sucks live now. Maybe I have seen too many of his old shows. When I go to his show now I am bored for more than half of the show. I go to other peoples shows and I have a much better time now. I think its a couple of things for me. It seems to be the same songs over and over and he brings nothing new to the table plus I have seem him just too much in the past. He just can't do what he used to do. I am a BIG guitar fan and his playing has gotten very lazy and sloppy. His recents bands are also lacking in the personality and skills department to me. He used to have some incredible musicians around him and now they are all garbage. Can you honestly say the last 6 years tours by him can really matchup to the Lovesexy, Purple Rain, symbol album, D&P, Gold tour, Rainbow Children tour or even Sign o the times tour? NO its not even close!! I am glad you still enjoy it. I WISH I could say the same but I cant.
