we should appeciate him while he is still here... i was at the hop farm festival gig in a kentish field in england which was amazing...i dont know how he continues to play those songs and always make them sound so fresh and uplifting...he definately converted lots of music followers on sunday...you need to see prince live before you fully understand his appeal...he does have off nights but they are few and far between... . during the gig ...he played a bit of michael jackson's 'dont stop til you get enough'...which he is obviously doing as a small tribute to him....i was never a big mj fan but i..of course..appeciated his undoubted talents and he was a great star in his own right..mj was one of the great artists of the 80s as prince was .....it got me thinking that we really should be appeciating the fact that this fantastic artist prince is still with us and still putting on amazing live shows...i really dont think there is anyone around like him...he is one of the last music greats from the 20th century still doing his stuff to a high standard and anyone who hasnt seen him live really should try and catch him before he hangs up his high heels for the last time...that might be a long time away but you can never be sure how long he will continue for.. . i sometimes moan on here about his behavior and daft interview quotes but i always keep in mind what he has added to my life...his music is the soundtrack to my life and he will always be a very important figure to me and i am glad i and many others can still enjoy prince while he is still on this earth..

I agree, but sadly its almost like human nature, for people to be unappreciative of someone they love, respect or even like til there gone. i wont even think about P not being here with us, to painful, he's added alot of flavor 2 my life. But some wont see that til, P is gone, & thats really messed up "How Can I Stand To..Stay Where I Am? Poor Butterfly Who..Dont Understand." P

Nah, he should appreciate US. We have shown our appreciation over and over in more ways than one can count.

prince is very much alive and well so what's the point about getting sentimental and teary eyed about him?? don't play me...i'm over 30 and i DO smoke weed....

Great thread thanks!
You don't know what you've got til it's gone... and we have to know what brilliant artist we have, living among us today, let's not wait until he's gone, celebrate him today! now!
Yeah, I love Graffiti Bridge movie, so what? ''Oooooooooooh Montreal, say it!''
If you can't be nice to someone on the net, you probably ain't worth much talking to in real life either.

He's alive and working hard, so it's hard not to be critical minded, and just give in to reverence.
When it comes to live shows, aside from erratic scheduling, and the latest band changes, there's no reason not to pay tribute while you can, while he's publicly appearing to be in some of the best shape of his life (mentally, physically, vocally, musically).

This kinda reminds me of my wife tellin' me back when P did the Welcome 2 America shows I was thinkin' it was the same ole, same ole becuz it's a Hits show. When I saw P in NYC's MSG and saw P in South Carolina I was blown away and now I can re-live thoz shows over and over again (have the video footage and music).

Where's he going? We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Brillantly said. Before I was blessed to see Prince in concert, I would skip across listening the latest boots of the time becuz he "played the same thing". But when I actually attended a concert of his back in march of this year, I LOVED him and the music even more and couldn't believe my eyes and ears. Every word and agile movement that came from him astounded me and I was mighty grateful to be in his audience. Not that I worship him or anything, but still, it gave me much more appreciation Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!

Very well put. You just have to look at MJ for an example. The people in general and especially the press never gave him a break about his personal life or the allegations made against him. Now that he's gone, suddenly everyone loves him and he should be remembered for his music. It's like they never knew what they had until they lost it.

Yes i agree...fans should appreciate him more... I feel he's gone through stages of my life with me... However, thankfully he seems very youthful and healthy so hopefully he has a good few years left in him!!

Basically:
-I still think that Musicology, 3121, Lotus and 20Ten are all solid, 3.4/4 out of 5 stars, B+ albums, so I still appreciate his new music...
-I can deal with his JW stuff as long as he doesn't make another album about it (TRC), lol
-As long as he doesn't kill/brutalizze a woman, I just don't care what he thinks of them, and yes, I'm including burqas and harems, lol
so I'm still a fan, all the way down... lol

I LOVE this thread so had to reply... hear hear! Hop Farm was phenomenal. Seeing Prince live is an experience that everyone should share. He's timeless. x

Agreed! I bitch about him from time to time but what would I do if there were no Prince? His music is definately the soundtrack to my life too and I think I've learned alot from him as well. Most importantly that you should always do you, no matter what anyone else thinks or says. Who would have thought a little guy in high heeled boots would make so many women go bananas? A lesson to everyone to always be who you are.

You know why? Because for years he seemed imortal. He never aged, he was like Dorian Grey. And now all of a sudden in the last few years we realize he's getting up there. He's looking a little older (for once) and he's making a few senile sounding comments and people are beginning to picture him as an old man and reallize he won't be around forever.

We should appreciate everyone while they are still here. If one doesn't appreciate a person...perhaps....one should help him or her to gain appreciation!

Attending a concert and being there comprises much more aspects apart from the music that actually comes out from the PA.
I was just listening to this recording and, honestly, when I managed to finish listening to cd1 I was very afraid I won't be bothered listening to cd2.
Had I been at the concert, I would've probably had a good time but because of those all other aspects that help shaping 'the full concert experience'.
Back home, listening strictly to what came off the PA, I would probably think the same: load o'crap.
Actually attending a concert and just listening to a recording of it are uncomparable things.
But... when I listen to boots of concerts from his best eras I can have the time of my life listening to gigs that I unfortunately couldn't attend (the first time I was able to see Prince live at last was in 90).
So, there's definitely a big difference between old concerts and recent ones: the former are sheer joy to listen to even if you weren't there and the new ones can be only enjoyed whilst being there and not because of the music strictly, but because all those 'satellite aspects' of the concert (the preparatives, the journey, the friends, the people you will meet, the nerves of thinking it might be his best concert ever, the atmosphere...).
So whilst I appreciate the effort and the aim of your thread I can only say that if he keeps on making lame records or playing lame concerts I don't even care if he's here or not.

In a word, and before dodging the stones that will surely be thrown at me I can conclude that the post-ONA Prince is a totally different musician and performer to the one he was until then.
A musician I'm not at all interested in. Neither live nor on wax.
Hell, his post-ONA gigs even make the 96-2001 tours sound acceptable, when they used to rank amongst the worst of his career!!
