What does good music have to do with age and maturity? That isnot Prince's problem. His problem is the influence's in his life now. He is so smart in some ways and than he get's with Larry and others that arenot as smart as himself and for some reason he listens to them.

I'm not far behind Prince in age and I still like songs like Lady Cab Driver and DMSR, and others.
This religion willnot let Prince be himself!

Again, I'm not saying he's lost his ability to give us funky music, we all know it's in his soul. But what I am saying, is that he probably lost THAT funk quite some time ago. I'm talking about the funk you could hear on almost everything he touched back then. Prince is in a very different place now.

Did you see the Ozzy dance during The Work? The similarity to his Hot Thing performance on the Sign O The Times gig was remarkable. The Everlasting Now is not Housequake. Shut up, already, damn!

Listen to what Anji is saying. we're talking about the deep dirrty dawg funk. it's not the same as the shit he puts out now. we're talking 'Head' 'Feel U Up', 'G-Spot', etc. The last few years as seen his music loose it's edge and it just sound like Prince covering James Brown / The Brothers Johnson, and himself.

back them Prince was a rebel, had truck full of attitude and therefore was as cool as fuck. the funk was coming out of every pore. the only way he can re-gain that is IF he has anything left over in the Vaults. sadly that's the only way we'll be seeing anymore of THAT funk.

Lovebird, allow me to clarify this thread.

I'm not talking about just good music, it's about that funk. In my opinion, Prince is producing his best music in years, but it's somewhat different now. There are no 'problems' with his influences as I see it, but you clearly think otherwise. I actually believe this religion is allowing him to be the person he wants to be. I suspect the real problem is that he is not being the person you want him to be. That's sad for you, and others like yourself.

I BELIEVE THAT MUSICIANS AND SINGERS ARE NOT REALLY AS TALENTED AS WE MAKE THEM OUT TO BE AND THEY (IF THEIR HONEST) WILL AGREE. I BELIEVE THAT THEY ARE ALMOST POSSESED BY A SPIRIT OF MUSIC FOR A TIME AND THEY HAVE TO BE OPEN TO IT AND THAT THE MELODIES AND LYRICS ALREADY EXIST IN THE UNIVERSE AND THAT THEY ARE THE MEANS FOR THE MUSIC TO COME OUT. I THINK THAT THIS STAYS WITH THESE PEOPLE AS LONG AS THEY ARE OPEN TO IT.

MICHAEL JACKSON SAID SOMETHING VERY INTERESTING ABOUT THIS RECENTLY IN ONE OF THOSE INTERVIEW SPECIALS WHEN HE WAS ASKED HOW HE CAME UP WITH SONGS. IT WAS SOMETHING TO THE EFFECT OF , THAT THE MUSIC IS ALREADY THERE IT'S A QUESTION OF TAPPING INTO IT.

I REALLY BELIEVE THAT IS WHAT IT IS.

I THINK PRINCE HAS LOST THE ABILITY TO TAP INTO IT AND IS JUST REPEATING WHAT HE HAS ALREADY EXPERIENCED.
