Are we all agreed that P needs to take at least a year off. The man needs to just stop!. If he has enough $ then he just needs to finish this tour, don't bother with any remaster project, forget new albums, don't tour. Just go away, chill, do normal stuff and come back in 2013 with something worthwhile, well crafted and credible. I think we could all do with a break!. Anyone agree?.

Yep I saw an interview with him in Paris and it made me realise that he's an act, a parody.... The interview was quite light and breezy but wasn't quite going the way he wanted so he said "ask me about God" and they did...and it was all set up so he could give this little exit monologue. How silly - he had this bit rehearsed and he seemed panicy he wouldn't get to use it so had to set the question for himself. I just thought that perhaps hed hugely overestimated his self worth and genuinely sees himself as a Ghandi, Luther King when he's not. If he went away for a while or even good, there's nothing to miss anymore - he's just a grumpy old man now.

. ehhhh...well since i already promised in another thread to cut off my right ball if he doesnt release an album before the end of 2012....i would rather he didnt wait til 2013... . .

No, that's not what "we" want him to do. It's what "You" want him to do. He could release an album a month and I'd gladly listen to it. If I enjoyed it great. If I didn't fine. I'm in favor of Prince doing what he wants. I don't expect that to coincide with my own desires like some seem too.
the simplest solution for those who think he should go away so he can come back with this fantasy album or not be a parody of himself Is for them to actually go away themselves. Problem solved.
Isn't funny how much you guys complain but just can't go away yourselves.

A year? Um lets not put a set time on it, how about he just takes a break. He doesnt wanna record, and if he doesnt want to, then thats fine by me. If he feels forced to release an album every 2 yrs because he's Prince & thats what he does. We will only recieve forced plain unsatisfying, wish he could have made a better effort music. So by all means take a break P. I want GOOD music, not okay music "How Can I Stand To..Stay Where I Am? Poor Butterfly Who..Dont Understand." P

I'd rather have him release 2 to 5 albums of both old and new material every year...
Prince says he's not recording or releasing new albums anymore and that might be true, but after the "I won't play live again" from 1985, the "I won't record again" and the "This is the last time I play the hits live" from 1993 and the "last live performance ever of 1999" from 1999, I'm a bit skeptical... He could/should do a Bowie.
Bowie - last heard playing his music in 2004. Now Bowie is all of the sudden more relevant than ten years ago .. simply by being quiet. And Bowie's name seems to drop more often in the press.

i think he away due to ill health. However since his heart attack there has been a steady stream of great remasters, repackaged CD's etc.

he had a heart attack ...didnt he ?...and i dont think he has fully recovered from it...i think its his health that is the main reason for him being soo quiet..

True, but he was up and running in the following year (he made an interview, I think, in 2005ish saying he was recording far more experimental stuff by then .. but I can't validate that). Rumour has it, he is sitting still untill his record contract expires in 2012, as he's unhappy with EMI.
But yeah, it's probably true also about releases from Bowie. There's been remasters galore (that Staion to Station Box .. man, I'd love to see 1999 in that format) - and I think maybe THAT has helped raise his profile these past years, as his great works are pushed forward and the lesser ones are allowed to be forgotten as there's no Bowie in the press to push whatever new he has.
Regardless, even if it is an accidential strategy, if Bowie released a record now, he'll get loads of attention, simply because it's been a long time since the last time we heard from him and EMI has been reminding us how great his back catalogue is in that wait.
Still hoping he'll return though. And still, I think Prince could follow that route: Be quiet, release a remaster here and there to remind people of his greatness and let the dust hide the lesser works. It's all about mythology building, isn't it?
/EDIT Nevermind though. Bowie's last album before he wrapped up was by many his best in nearly thirty years. That may be the best strategy to make people go hungry for your music. [Edited 6/24/11 5:50am]

Prince has taken the last 18 years off. He's dead.

Who the hell is in the position to even have an opinion that matters on what Prince should do?

If he does take some time off, let's hope he spends it focusing on remastering his catalog

I am.
I have the proper document on my wall. It's signed and framed and with all the right stamps. I have a guy hired to print out everything I say online and put it into envelopes and mail it to Prince so he can properly adjust his life accordingly. At one time I got a letter back saying: "Stop sending your stupid letters" - but I just keep at it anyway, because I'm sure he likes the attention anyway.
It's sort of like when Prince have opinions on like six hundred million people and how they should live (the homos) or when he have opinions three billion people and how they should be and behave because they are women, you know .. opinions. Does Prince's opinion matter? No. Because he ain't got the proper document. [Edited 6/24/11 6:00am]

It's not about how many years he should take off. It's about the right intentions.
Why does Prince release music?
Because he wants to get some money. Because he has recorded some. Because he is supposed to release an album a year.
The most important reasons Prince has neglected for far too long in his career:
Because he thinks his new music is the best he has ever recorded. Because he has something musically and lyrically interesting to say. [Edited 6/24/11 6:40am]

why should Prince waste a whole year,
he should just unlock that vault, give us some quality stuff, maybe those re-mastered albums, from the Warner era.
Make us all excited yet again, excited about the music. Prince 4Ever.

Well yeah, maybe 2 have some inspiration again. I hope he is gonna release an album in 2013 or 2012 or something.. Most artists release an album each 2 or 3 years.

Prince needs a 5 year break with new albums. Everything he has put out since Emancipation is lifeless. No not the worst music in the world, but nowhere near enjoyable for anyone outside of FAMS/collectors, etc. Also no concerts. I'd like to see him release the live material in the vaults if he needs to make money and SUPPORT the reunion projects of The Time and FDeluxe, or whoever. But is entertaining REALLY where Prince's heart is anymore? He hasn't given a damn what entertains us, the public, in like 20 years. Give us a chance to really miss him.

Agreed, Bowie's last two albums are classics in my opinion. But then again I enjoyed both 20Ten and LotusFlow3r too... not as complete albums, but far more enjoyed them than didn't. Change it one more time..

The internet is dead so how would he know?

What difference would it make? His touring schedule isn't that heavy. He's (evidently) not releasing new music. He never released his last album in the states. He's been ignoring his brilliant (and important) legacy for twenty years. How would taking time off affect anything?
