I am very angry as I have bought "Purple Rain" 12 times over the years and every single copy is fine but they have made a mistake with When Doves Cry with every pressing I've got as there is no bass on the track.

I bet most people on here have heard Prince songs way too many times. I have probably heard songs like Head and, Lady Cab Driver etc... a million times. However, they're still great to me. So if WDC isn't all that for you, then it probably just is not a song that is meant to be your favourite. Everyone loves the song Purple Rain to death... I probably think the same of that song as you think of WDC. Sometimes when a song is too much of a monster hit, it backfires at the hardcore fans, making them feel it's getting less enjoyable to listen to. I heard OutKast - Hey Ya more than a year before it became a hit in the states, the same with Gnarls Barkley - Crazy. They were powerful pop songs to me back then, then some of the magic kind of dissappeared after they became monster hits.

i actually feel the same way about purple rain that i do about wdc, its also way too long, drags on and kills my musical high

For me, I think ultimately it is his best song. It is special, got drama, very catchy and danceable, great hook and synth line. A classic, and one of its kind.
