What is your favourite thing about 'When Doves Cry'? Mine is the part where the guitar solo comes in

Mine is the part when The Kid an Apollonia are naked in the barn... it made me really want to see Purple Rain, back in 84.

As far as the song goes: the chorus is pretty special. Modernist writes empathetic lyric shocker!

hell this is the crown jewel of all Prince songs,

there's so many "fave parts"

the guitar intro

the synth 'line'

the dry drum-machine sound (without any bassline)

the guitar solo in the middle of the song

the synth solo at the end

the 'heart broken' lyrics (how can u just leave me standing alone in a world that's so cold)

the Prince screams

of course it's a masterpiece,

according to Rolling Stone: the best selling single in 1984 (in the US).

The third chorus, when Prince's lead-line is riffing over top. Especially in the video - we've been watching all these nice images of Purple Rain and Prince in a bathtub, when all of a sudden - holy shit! - we're trapped in a white room with the Revolution, and they're looking right at us! And now, they're dancing toward us!! AAUUUGGGHH!!!!!!

I still think that's one of the best edits in any music video, ever.
