I think a lot of the ignorance comes from people misinterpreting him. The "Prince is gay" comment, 4 example, could be that people saw his outfits during the Lovesexy era and automatically assumed he was gay just from that. I know that when Prince said "The Internet is dead", all kinds of people took that the wrong way, like the WHOLE Internet is dead, as opposed 2 simply a means 2 distribute music. And of course, the name change gets people going every time....

There's this dude at my work that's always giving me shit about Prince. He's a huge Metallica fan, and he has said all kinds of crazy things from "Metallica started grunge" 2 "Prince obviously sucked at one form of music, so he tried another". Usually we're just joking around when we talk about this subject, but it does compel me 2 think about all the people out there who really do find a reason 2 talk trash about Prince. We need 2 remind them of how Prince has defied the conventions of pop music. We need 2 remind them that he didn't get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by luck. And we need 2 remind them of how multi-talented and hard-working this man is, and how much he has accomplished in his remarkable career.

Oh, by the way, I also reminded this dude that Prince placed #7 on VH1's Greatest Artists countdown while Metallica placed way below that. He was in disbelief. I just laughed.

If they think he is shite, or is gay or whatever then that's fine, the days of me defending him from people like that are long gone, I know I like him and that's all that matters.

I tend to Ignore Ignorance of any kind, and this goes without saying when it pertains 2 my favorite artist(P) if someone wants 2 make judgements on someone without doing there homework, there not worth the trouble. *Imbecile* always comes to mind when they speak though

Some people just dont get it. You need to be a person in the right mindset to dig on Princes back catalogue of outfits. I love androgyny, glam and provocative imagery, so to me.... Prince is REALLY cool.

But to my best mate who im in a band with "Prince is so camp, its not even funny". At least he digs Princes musical ability though. I remember putting Live in tokyo on at home infront of him and my guitarist (who is a HUGE fan also). Various comments were "oh shit, i just had a guitargasm!"

I can't remember the last time this kind of thing happened. I'd say he's been around so long, even if someone might not know his music, they know he's a talented guy who's been around decades.

I guess you still get the name thing sometimes - there are people who are amazed when you say it's been a decade or more since he went back to Prince - I guess he still uses the symbol on stage etc, so maybe that confuses them?

I just learned 2 cite some of the many accomplishments Prince has done, which NO one else can simply do. My girlfriend "USE" (Now she kind of fell in love with the fact that he is killer with jazz..lol) Anyways, she use 2 hate me mentioning/listening/singing Prince, because she thought I was blinded 2 many other forms of music, since she listens 2 literally everything...BUT I just had 2 make it clear 2 her, it's because Prince could do so many forms of music..(YES, I can & DO listen 2 a bunch of other songs & artists, Prince is just one I listen 2 the most out of everyone else..)..While he may NOT utilize all genres successfully; the guy knows how to arrange a song with a beat that discards the whacky lyrics most of the time. Although I happen like his word play and lyrical suggestions! He's a genius & it's not only because he knows how to play multiple instruments; surely that cites to his genius on many levels. It's also the clear understanding in knowing WHERE HE IS, & that this is what he is made 2 do. I don't care what people ultimately have 2 say about him or his many eccentricities, he's shown himself within the span of his career to produce some level of genius in every product.

"Is he still going?" seems to be the only response I've gotten when I've mentioned Prince.

I'm 40 and I have a couple of friends who listen to all that stuff too. The others are into good stuff though (imo).
