This one and many other unreleased songs have been out there for eons.

I can't understand how people are 'discovering them' now.

There's so much out there to dig that I can't understand people doesn't go for it.

But maybe it's better to keep on starting stupid threads all over the org than discovering the opus of their -presumably- favourite musician.

Nah! I don't care about lyrics. Especially Prince's lyrics. It's all about the music for me.

The song itself, the instrumentation, the vocal melody and how that melody is sung.

Prince will always be a part of History for his astounding musicianship and compositional skills. I don't think he'd be very fortunate in a 'just-lyricist' ranking. That is, if he ranks at all.

I say this every time there's an 'I Wonder' thread, but this is one of those perfect, timeless little pop songs that would floor people if they heard it. He could put it out now and probably not even give it much promo, just some backing by some DJ on a popular radio show gushing about it, and it would set on fire.

Prince is very guilty of gilding the lily sometimes, but this is just one of those tracks, even if the version we know was unfinished or not (I don't know) - it's great just as it is - instantly catchy, instantly Prince - does not sound dated or of a particular time.

discovering a gem like "i wonder" is why prince fans sift thru piles of prince mediocrity looking for these sometimes elusive little masterpieces .. "i wonder" is one of my faves .. i will be great to hear it on a remaster bonus disk someday soon ..
