Hits B Sides Perhaps Best Overall Record?

My top 5 Favorite Prince records If I include compilations would look like this:

1 The B sides

2 Prince

3 1999

4 Sign O the Times

5 Purple Rain

ok, shall continue...

6 Controversy

7 3121

8 Around the World In a Day

9 Parade

10 Dirty Mind

Yep, pretty good list! Anyone agree B-sides rule?

I thought I was the only one who thought that The B-Sides disc worked well as an album moreso than a compilation (even though it is a compilation!) I don't know where I would rank it though.

B Sides would have worked much better if they had included the full length 12" versions of the tracks... Great tunes, but kinda dissappointing.

Except there's no way they could have fit them all one disc. Including the full versions would have signifiacntly upped the price of the set.

I agree, I love the B-sides disk, that would have really made it for me.

I figure they needed something to hold back to get people like me to re-purchase it again later when they re-release another compilation or box set some time in the near future.

I agree, but the set would have been 4 discs and I don't know if WB would have done that.

I always hoped they would do just a separate 12 inch and extended limited edition hits compilations. They did give us the Ultimate compilation, but it is missing so many good remixes and includes a few lame ones (The NPG Remix of Cream is just horrid to me).

B-Sides has his all time worst song God (vocal), so it can't be his best record.

I like God (Vocal) a lot,

but I dislikes Horny Toad.

Completely agree. Whether or not they would have had to make it 4 disks, or more expensive it's still disappointing. I hate the end of Adore missing the lyrics "without u there is no sea, there is no shore." (And yes I know some of u truly abhor Adore, sorry, it's one of my fav's).

Also,

God is a beautiful vocal IMO

ALWAYS LOVED Horny Toad (gets me antsy or would that be horny???)

I really missed heart or $ but I don't know which track I would switch out. If I HAD to I guess it would be Power Fantastic?? (I usually never listen to that one.)

IMO The Hits - B/Sides is a must have for true fans but like DaveG said it's disappointing. Especially when I let new fans borrow/listen, they miss some amazing portions of the songs.

The Hits collection was supposed to be a compilation of single masters. It was good to get all of the single versions of his big hits (except LRC, PR and LGC). I didn't have a problem with Adore or any of the other single masters. My problem came with the 12in versions of the songs.

I don't know if anyone rememberes, but WB was supposed to be issuing cd singles of the original 12in singles (like they did with Madonna and a few other artists), but (I believe) Prince stopped them. They were listed on several websites as "soon available", but they never surfaced. It would have been nice to get the 12in version of "Sexy Dancer" and a few more on cd.

I know it's an unauthorized bootleg, but T's 12" Archive compilation is far superior to Hits/B Sides.....

IMO

certainly the best album that a casual fan could dream of. It only lacks TMBGITW / Endorphinmachine / Black Sweat.

The Hits/The B-Sides?

The Hits came out in 1993. TMBGITW came out in 1994.

lol

that's why I said it lacks that song and the other two, lol

really, after 1993 all that a casual fan needs is TMBGITW/ Endorphinmachine / BlackSweat and, perhaps, Musicology and So Far So Pleased...
