I was very surprised when I discovered that a lot of fans don't like this song. I loved it from the first moment I heard it, it has a beautiful melody and is one of the best songs on the album.

In retrospect- no need to claim it. I'd disown it also. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Source? Tim Burton vetoed some of the songs on the album. I've never heard that he was so dissatisfied he tried to ignore the music. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Do you have more than two Prince albums? Seriously, no way is it in the top third. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Music snobs always dislike songs they don't think are "cool". You should have seen the threads I started for Debby Boone's You Light Up My Life and Morris Albert's Feelings. Or Vainandy's constant tirades about Whitney Houston. I like them anyway. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I recall a Rolling Stone interview where Tim said that he liked the songs but didn't feel that they "fit" the movie. He said that it was Warner Bros' idea to include the songs.

Rolling Stone: The other thing in the first Batman film that felt horribly intrusive was the Prince music. We're in this Tim Burton world, and all of a sudden, like him or not, in rides Prince.

^ interesting. i disagree completely. the music was the icing on the batman cake imo. it made the movie cool. plus some great tracks on that album like 'trust' and 'partyman' and 'vicki waiting'.
what a shame some people cant see the forest for the trees. "It's time for you to go to the wire."

^^ thanks for posting: as a dane/ non english I am not familiar with the word "intrusive".......
I love the Batman soundtrack it was hot back then, I was really trippin', and I still like it a lot.
the film supported the soundtrack and visa versa.... the soundtrack supported the film.
I don't really get why a word like intrusive is used, in case it means something like "terrible" ?
Batdance, Partyman, Scandalous
- these are some of the finest Prince music videos.
and the Batman album had other great songs as well, Vicki Waiting, Electric Chair...... Prince 4Ever.

I agree! Prince's music was one of the best things about the film! It's too bad that Tim Burton couldn't see this. He's acting as if a movie with music is a weird concept

I can understand people not liking songs like Diamonds and Pearls as it has really corny lyrics but Arms of Orion is in my opinion a really lovely, well put together song. Its not overly schmaltzy and it has good lyrics. Anyway thats my opinion... Shut up already, damn.

yw.
intrusive is a bit like 'not welcome' or 'out of place' or 'do you mind? we're trying to watch a movie here and you're taking all the attention away from jack nicholson and michael keaton. sh! we need to focus on kim's quivering lip and you come riding in. go away'.
this rolling stone guy may have just been trying to be cool in his own unsuccessful way and suck up to burton at the same time. either that or he's an idiot which is perfectly ok. the world is full of them.
btw i like 'electric chair' too. "It's time for you to go to the wire."

the first prince song that made me worry. the lyrics are cheesy nonsense, sheena doesn't sing, she just breathes and i hate the twatty ending. don't play me...i'm over 30 and i DO smoke weed....

A third if his released material must be what, 150 songs approx. 91 songs comprise the s/t - Lovesexy era, which we can agree, give or take an album here and there, was Prince at his creative peak. So, add 10 or so b-sides, and for convenience say 6 tracks apiece from Graffiti Bridge, D&Ps, Come, Symbol and TGE. I've still got room for 20, I wouldn't be grasping to find room for Orion at all, rather the quandry would be which tracks from the last decade I'd deem worthy.

I rarely pay attention to lyrics. The singer is just another sound to me. That's why I can listen to songs in languages I don't know, scatting, or instrumental music. I don't understand the thinking that lyrics that have some sort of personal meaning to the singer or "deep" lyrics are supposed to be better quality. If you take away the music, lyrics are sort of like poems, and poetry makes no sense to me. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Before he submitted tracks,Prince went to the 'Batman' set, watched a few scenes being films, saw some rough footage and discussed things with Tim.If Tim had any special requests,he should have spoken up.I don't think he understood how Prince works. He probably didn't expect Prince to complete a whole album so fast.
Something else that Tim doesn't understand: when movie studios spend a fortune on a movie, they want the movie to get as much exposure and make as much money as possible.Having a mainstream artist like Prince do the soundtrack was a win-win for everyone involved.Prince's music videos from the album were all over MTV and the songs were all over the radio. Thus,Batman was able to not only dominate the box office but the Billboard charts too. Most film directors seem to understand this concept.
