It's still my favourite Prince album. I think it's unlikely he'll ever top this one. For me anyway.

I agree, the album is HIGHLY OVERRATED in my view.

The drums in particular are overly simple not to say awful on most tracks, and this is getting more and more obvious now that so many sophisticated beats have surfaced (Missy Elliott-Timbaland is one example).

While Parade and 1999 sound timeless, Sign sounds somewhat (I say "somewhat", so don't flame me, I love this album!)outdated. Actually I would never choose this album as a teaser for non-prince fans (and actually my brother who is 20 years old -I'm 29- didn't like it at all while he is very much into 1999 for instance)


Best proof (at least for me): while it was still by far my favourite prince album in the first half of the 1990s, I haven't listened to it for years, while several other prince albums are never too far from my CD player...

To me, SOTT is what being a Prince fan is all about. Haystack, you were 17/18 when this album came out. How big of a Prince fan were you then.

I long for the days of vinyl and activator. ( No curl - just a reference.)

If it's too many moods for you, I suggest making prince mixes, that's what I do. Make a list of ballads, funk, pop, etc. That way, if you have trouble following albums like SOTT, you don't have to. But you are missing out on songs like Dorothy Parker and Forever in my life. Every single song on this album is spectacular in some way, except of course, Do It. That's the only shit tune in my opinion.

Try getting in2 the Sign Of O' Times movie Outtakes...few hours of it, but I can't seem 2 watch it 2 long...

Prince fans have mellowed out. About 11 years ago I let it slip that I couldn't get into Dirty Mind in a fanc lub magazine, the next issue I was slaughtered. All I said was that I couldn't get into it. So I wrote back in and apologised if I offended but I have tried to like it but cant. I was only 16 then, now I am older it has fibally grown on me but it took time.

Sign O' The Times has remained my favourite album ever since I can remember.

SOTT is the greatest single LP to come out in the last 20 years, with Lovesexy, Purple Rain, 1999, Off The Wall, Nation of Millions, Blowout Comb, and Passion not too far behind
