The Jeff Gold Experience? First time I open my own topic! Oh, the excitement!
The other 'Gold Experience' topic in this forum actually triggered me. It's a question that's gone through my head for ages (and AFAIK wasn't answered before):
Could it be that the song and album title actually refers to Jeff Gold, whom he had quite some fights with around the time of recording this album? Does the song express his disappointment in Jeff maybe?
Just a thought....

Jeff Gold ?? (I don't recall that name)....
But it's true Prince was frustrated with Warner Bros. back when this album was made,
like in this article from Rolling Stone (June 1993).....

^ or.... could it be Danny Goldberg, mentioned in this article,
he was senior vice-president (in 1993) of the Time-Warner owned Atlantic Records
.

I assume you mean the exec at Warner Bros.
Your theory could be possible, but only Prince knows. But while amusing, somehow I doubt it's the case. Gold has always been a color associated with Purple....I think the subliminal intent was really to show that he could create his "Purple Rain" of the 90s.... complete with epic title song. |

Jeff started working as an Art Director (he designed some Prince albums artwork, too) and became Executive VP/GM at WB's early 1995. TGE was released September 1995. I think it is at least possible that Jeff could have been an inspiration for the title. - Azif WeKare -

to me those lyrics fit the whole frustration he probably had about everybody wanting the old prince/purple rain etc....
