But this doesn't mean that you can't be a real Prince fan without hearing every unreleased song. People should not be expected of that, because they're unreleased.

Of course, we got people here who haven't heard every song Prince officially released and don't even have hard copies of his albums but just lousy mp3 or whatever compressed format to 'enjoy' on those horrible portable devices.
That, I simply can't conceive. I love having every released album by my favourite artist (the real deals) and when I'm done with that my hunger for their music makes me dig deeper and try to get any other song that artist has recorded, even if he doesn't want me to do so.
But we're living hurried times when a teenager who has heard a couple of songs decides THAT is his favourite artist, join related forums, defend him blindly to death without having a good idea of what they're talking about and just disappear when they think they've found another artist-of-the-fortnight.

Good on them is what I say. Otherwise we'd just end up a bunch of insular, know-it-all fans correcting the most minute errors in each other's posts as there would be nothing else to talk about.
Those 'Post a picture of prince's gums' threads piss me off greatly, but when it's a post from a newbie (or someone who has just found out about the mass of unreleased stuff available), gring it on. This post made me play I Wonder for the first time in absolutely ages. It's a fantastic song, but I'd forgotten just how good. So to the OP, thanks for starting this thread, don't be put off and let us know when you discover more gems like this one, there's plenty out there
And Vitriol, you're a knowledgeable fella and a lot of your posts are intuitive and well opinioned, if you used that to educate or help, I guarantee you'd get a much better response and enjoy your time round here more. blah blah blah

I'm afraid we're discussing two different kinds of newbie fans.
People with a real interest in Prince's music will always be welcome and will always have any kind of help from me.
What's more, I've in fact helped a lot of 'serious' newbies and still continue to do so. With real pleasure.
A totally different kind of thing is my personal org crusade against nonsense and idiotisms, which btw I enjoy big time.
We all need a sort of an outlet for our nastier side. One cannot be Mother Theresa all the time, sometimes you also have to be Charles Manson, lol. Just for 'balance sake'.
And even though I've already said it, I want to reiterate that all my posts in this thread aren't directly aimed at Doffie Parker. Not at all.
I just used this example because I adore Prince's music up to Musicology (excluded) even though I hate the mans' ways and I can only pity those who are missing an important part of his output on behalf of his clothing, his facial hair or his favourite condom brand. [Edited 6/23/11 7:34am]

It's called "5 women"
"It took 5 women, to get you off of my mind"
it's a bluesy song with great parts. It was given to Joe Cocker who released his own version. Prince's version is so good. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

^Yes. The version Prince first recorded and gave to Joe Cocker.
The version on The Vault:OF4S is a re-recording.

Was that reworked... you know it's been so long since I've listened to The Vault, that I assumed it was a revamped version. I need to dig it up. I had just recently heard the one on The Work bootleg.
If it's the same, then big hand thump to the face for me! My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

Vitriols right, it's re-recorded ( or at the very least reworked in the same way Sexual Suicide was for 98's Crystal Ball) always loved the tune, it's on my early 90's blues compilation album. I play that more than many official albums blah blah blah
