The Dawn Just saw this compilation and I am beginning to wonder, was this PrinceĀ“s best era live. Unfortunately, I didnt get to see the Parade,SOTT or Lovesexy tours live, but I have always held the belief that the 86-89 era was his best live.
I saw both Point Depot concerts in Dublin in 1995, of the 20 odd times I have seen Prince live including a few of the aftershows in 2007, these two 95 concerts are still my favourites.
Having just watched some of the performances on The Dawn project, has jogged my memory and I am seriously beginning to think that this was actually his best era live. He had incredible anger and energy built up in him which he seemed to unleash during his performances, like the version of Peach, which is even better than the one he did for the MTV awards.
It was this anger and energy that I always liked during the Lovesexy tour. I still believe the live 88 footage is the best of Prince I have seen, which annoys me no end, as I was in England that summer during the tour, but could not get tickets. Had SOTT tickets but we all know what happened there.
However, having seen this Dawn footage, maybe I did see Prince at his supernatural best in 95. I would be interested in what others think and which live era they found best.
If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

It is a DVD, 3 parts - Act 1, Act 2, Act 3

Above link has the contents of each Act. It is mostly material from the era you have stated.
If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

i've been going to see Prince live since '85 and injoy what he is now live. looking back and remembering the days that got him to where he is now, well, it is something that i like to do and maybe i am guilty of looking back to older dawns. but, now, what he does live, is what i want 2 see and see it as his best. his screams and guitar playing can't be topped. i just wish that he would play jimi hendrix's music - not because prince has black skin in this life but because prince is the only one qualified to give respect and honor to the music of jimi, put new life in2 it, and evolve it higher. maybe i am gulity of looking 2 the future. it has been a journey about evolution of consciousness from there to here to there. look 4 the new dawn.

Memories are what keeps us attached to the Purple One. But I agree that to see him perform today is priceless. I can always watch yester year on DVDs. Prince's Sarah | |
