I loved the Grammy performance that year, but the performance of Purple Rain on the AMA's in '85 is my personal favorite. (sentimental reasons )

Canary yellow outfit with that ass saying hello to everyone.......'91 Mtv movie awards. Hey, it got my undivided attention! LOL If I recall correctly, the microphone got caught in one of his sleeves, resulting in the microphone smacking him in the face! Damn, I miss the nasty little Prince, then again it wouldn't be a good look with him doing that type of stuff today at age 53. Oooooooooooh, wait a minute, I think ya betta trip on this!!!!!

I always felt that performance was the best one to air on TV, hands-down. He killed it at the Grammy's.

Purple Rain performance right? I swear the words "HATER" is wayyy over-rated...smh

The AMA's performance in 1985 was great as well. Prince was really on a roll!

Just watched it again. That is true showmanship! I was 13 in 1985. That was when watching music award shows like that were something to look forward to!

Another vote for Purple Rain at the '85 AMAs. Man he was feelin' that shit. He made my mom cry, and she didn't even know who he was!

Every performance that people mentioned are all legendary. Once Prince became that star with Purple Rain, it was all gravy from there. Hell, even his performance with Beyonce, helped bring him back into favor with the public and he did that on cruise control. __________________________________________________

85 Grammys Baby I'm a star. He had the crowd in the palm of his hand! The energy in that place was off the charts! You know everybody wanted to get up on that stage with him! Prince owned 84 & 85. Nobody came close!

Exactly. Defining Prince moment that put to rest any question over wether or not he's the real deal.

To me there were a lot of jaw-dropping moments on the footage of the Nude Tour that I saw. I'm dying to see that stuff again but it all got pulled down.... "I don't think you'd do well in captivity." - random person's comment to me the other day

yeah Grammy performance as very anticlimactic after Purple Rain at AMAs. I remember at the time even thinking that the Baby I'm A Star performance wasn't that great (even though I watched it 100 times probably).

That performance was absolutely nerve wracking to watch! LOVE the white pants

Took him a minute to recover from the beginning, but it was pretty good.
Having Sheila E & Jerome just shows what an amazing year he'd had. Not just his own music. My Legacy

the guitar solo was the same solo that clapton played on the record, plus the other half of the solo was from an earlier santana record.

Yeah, folks often mistake the showmanship for musical innovation on that one...
