"Leave that blood alone!"

I just finished listening to the first 2 tracks of the ONA ("Rainbow Children" and "Muse 2 the Pharaoh") and for the first time actually heard the lyrics through... and it hit for the first time that this guy's brain has been spit and barbequed!

These WatchTower goons have got his brain and their making sandwiches out of it!!

I call for Prince fans of conscience everywhere to go gather at the WatchTower headquarters and chant/shout "Give us back Prince's brain!" until our demands are met!

smile What has it got to do with the JW faith or with The Watchtower? Seems like pro-vegetarian sentiment to me, and I'm all for it.

Dead Blood kills Interferons...

Interferons are the cytokines that can "interfere" with viral growth. They also have the ability to inhibit proliferation and modulate immune responses. Four types of interferons have been identified: IFN-a, IFN-b, IFN-w and IFN-g. The first three are Type I IFNs which have relatively high antiviral potency. IFN-g is the Type II IFN, also called immune IFN.

Type I IFNs are produced by macrophages, neutrophils and other somatic cells in response to infection by viruses or bacteria. After they are released, they may bind to their receptors that are expressed on most cell types, resulting in the production of over 30 different proteins in the target cell. Among them, two enzymes play a critical role in the inhibition of viral replication: RNA-dependent protein kinase (PKR) and 2'-5' oligoadenylate synthetase (2-5A synthetase). Both enzymes can be activated by double-stranded RNA which may be present in some viruses. The activated PKR can phosphorylate a protein (eIF2) to inhibit protein synthesis. The 2-5A synthetase produces oligoadenylate that can bind and activate a cellular endonuclease to degrade mRNA.

IFN-g is produced in activated TH1 and NK cells, particularly in response to IL-2 and IL-12. Its production is suppressed by IL-4, IL-10, and TGF-b. Binding of IFN-g to its receptor increases the expression of class I MHC on all somatic cells. It also enhances the expression of class II MHC on antigen-presenting cells. IFN-g may also activate macrophages, neutrophils and NK cells.

Are we sure? Is it not a reference to the JW beliefs on blood transfusion? I'm not saying either way - although "dead" blood would imply a dead animal, it can also refer to the "useless" (as a JW would have you believe) blood taken from someone else - just trying to throw in another angle.

I wonder where Prince's info is from, as I can't find any evidence that shows that any sort of blood has any sort of effect on interferons (expcept for blood that has the HIV virus, as this inhibits the interferons).

I work with someone who is JW and I asked her. JW DO NOT believe in blood transfusions and said something about dead blood, so I would have to say Prince's comment is JW related.

So what if it is! The man is entitled to his beliefs...as are we. I personally don't know if it's about eating meat or receiving blood or both...probably both. To which I disagree with both...but I don't hold it against him as he should not hold my beliefs against me. Right Prince! smile LOL

I always find these quasi scientific justifications, for what in essence is a cult like religion induced believe, very funny...
For example, what about person to person blood transfusions where the blood doesn't get a chance to "die"... or when docters add some stuff to "dead" blood to counter the "killing of interferons" ... you think Jehova's would then be ok with blood transfusions?
Certainly not.
Fact is they have no good explenation for their dissaproval of blood transfusions, except for their obscure interpretation of the bible. Only when pressed into a corner will they fumble about and come up with some explantion like the Interferon mumbo jumbo.
Pressed into a corner they are when another one of their babies dies in hospital, leaving docters hopelessly wondering why they can't help the dieing kid.

lest u forget, this topic was covered in the song "animal kingdom."

Besides blood, if everyone was aware of all the hormones, steroids and chemicals in meat, most people wouldn't eat it. It's been said that all these things affect people who eat meat, and many girls are going through puberty at age 8 and 9 now! Not cool.

Personally, I think that giving/donating blood is one of the most loving things someone can do for the human race.
There are times that the body goes through such trauma that the bone marrow cannot keep up and create enough new blood and compete with the loss. A great loss of blood can cause death.
So, in those cases I think that using the blood of one of our human brothers or sisters is necessary.
What is the JW policy on organ donation...is it the same? Or what about bone marrow transplants? I'm asking because I don't know and I want to learn.

I dare you to show us one study that's generally considered as a true scientific study ... one that's published in a scientific magazine of some reputation (you know, what they normally do with real research and studies, not some religion induced propaganda)

While you're using google, might be worth to take some minor detours and look at studies that preceded the current usage of blood transfusions in every hospital on earth, on a daily basis.

There are many ways to lead a healthy and fulfilling life, and if your religion helps you in that, then more power to you. I just don't think you should confuse religion with science, as they are 2 entirely different things.

noone's fighting, i just question your ad random pasting om some quasi scientific sounding mumbo jumbo.

I just did... low and behold, no mention of adverse effects on interferons caused by blood transfusions on either site... what?!? the New England Journal of Medicine doesn't know about dead blood causing your interferons to go all haywire???

Do U believe in GOD? then would there be a science to following his commandments? and why do U keep talking about cults it's clear U have something against JW's but that's not what is being talked about here...

1. i don't think me following any religion is relevant at all ... what i'm pointing out here is that religion and sience are 2 seperate things and they should not be confused.
2. i mentioned the word "cult" only one time, and it was in my original posting, not the follow up where i basically mention that everybody should believe what they want to believe ... your comment uses the same method of deduction that i would use were i to respond to this with : from your comments it is very clear that you are a Jehova, and feel very insecure about it.

I'm done...Peace, on to the next topic

if you don't want to debate issues, then don't go around pasting random bits of religious propaganda disguised as science on webboards.

I could understand the "it's just gross" train of thought if folx were doing transfusions for the fun of it but...come on now...people who have to have a transfusion are in a life or death situation...I'm sure if they had a choice they'd choose to not be in that particular situation.

IMO, religion and science are not 2 separate things. Many people realize today that science, through it’s core scientific method, especially the field of physics, is actually proving the existence of God and has been moving in this direction for years. (I am not a scientist or even a student of the field so I can’t quote research articles for you here – I wish I could.) Religion and science are both about the same thing: searching for the truth of our existence. As there is only one truth, a creative energy, i.e., God, religion and science are very much intertwined. Time will tell. Truth will prevail.

I realize this isn’t a “scientific writing” but check out The Celestine Prophecy as one resource.
