thanks for sharing those lyrics...also 1 of my all-time fav Prince chune.

i remember early days when he used 2 write on cd's/albums:

'may u live 2 c the dawn'

cool

Yes Now it's more ' Love God ! '

Pretty much the same...if U Love God - U will live 2 C the Dawn. Yeah !

hasn't it always been though...think about Controversy back in the day >

"Do I believe in God, do I believe in me...some people wanna die, so they can be free"

One of the Beautiful thing about Prince and his work, is that nomatter what faith he claimed

He always got the point - the man knows his bible inside out from an early age age- he knows what the deal is ....whether Jehovah's Witness or Seventh Day Church, Catholic and/or what not.

He got a hang on the Truth to begin with and that has always shined through lyrically as well as musically in his work. That is the true sexiness about him...and life and beauty preserving factor as well. Much respect to Brother Nelson !

Q to NelsonR:

do you love Prince's post-Warner music 1996-2010 as much as the WB stuff 1978-1995...

I know I don't.

therefor it's good to be critical towards Prince and his music nowadays, imo... wink

.

i listen to 20ten and Lotusflower & planet earth more than i do 80's releases 2 b honest

I agree with you here. I love the old stuff but I have always moved on with Prince as he has progressed in his career. And for me its not about whether his music now is as good as the music then. I don't even think in those terms. It would be the equivalent of being in a long relationship with someone and continually comparing who they are now to who they were when you first met them.

Its great to reflect on the journey every now and again but constantly living in the past is pretty sad. Prince has so much to offer musically right now. I for one appreciate Prince now more than ever.

If you do actually read the posts here, remember that many people multi-nick, with crazy agendas.

Perhaps some are employed by mainstream media eek

Perhaps others are employed by WB biggrin

Then again, others cannot get a date and become angry when they see you surrounded by beauty all the time.

Also, there are those who have tried to sing or play an instrument, but have never succeeded in getting it right. They see what you do and embark upon self-hate tactics (symbolised in hateful-troll-like posts)

But...Prince, always remember, the feeling you get at your concerts...the love, the appreciation...IS the real THANG (among thousands and thousands)

You honestly don't have much more to prove, other than it takes balls to be and remain yourself out there in the mainstream, where souls are sold for hits, a pic on the magazine cover...

Stay who you are Prince, and always remember the LOVE you get at shows.

Respect and Pure Funk, NelsonR

....An awesome post, right on time too, considering a lot of the stupid-ass threads being started in this section of the forum lately by jealous motherfuckers.

that's positive. u have me thinking of his own lyrics in Daddy Pop where he sings: "living in the past, when they need 2 b living the new."

i think the best example of Prince's new is being face to face with him during his live events; it's there where the saying "action speaks louder than words" truly comes in being...

those of y'all that get to see Prince regularly are very fortunate indeed!

Be that as it May

I thought it was June

I tried 2 hold it

But I'd come 2 soon

Reading the org

Is like taking a toke

Better 2 understand

It disperses in the smoke

Speculation rampant

No facts on your side

U know the Purple Yoda

Takes it ALL in stride

If u have any idea what this is about........

U will NOT be able 2 plug in, turn on........and COP Out!

I am not too knowledgeable about Meshell Nedgeocello's music, but apparently she's on a Prince Cover tour called Gett Off.

This post is not so much about the tour, but positive thangs she said about Prince in a recent interview:

Leslie Poster: Of all the artists that have influenced you, why cover Prince?

Meshell Ndegeocello: Nobody's like Prince. He was an alternative to everything, he wrote, he played, he sang, he danced, he wore crazy s---. There are plenty of people worth covering but Prince was as influential as it gets for me.

LP: How has Prince's music influenced your own music?

MN: It made me courageous, uncompromising, not worried about where and how to fit.

She does acknowledge that Prince appears to be not too keen on other's covering his sounds, by saying:

MN: I don't play these songs like he did. I arrange them my own way, try to offer a new interpretation, of course. He says he doesn't like it when people play his music but I think there are new ways to hear them.

The rest of the interview may be found here

I saw this tour in Oakland and Meshell rocked it...her drummer is HELLA FINE too!! (Deantoni Parks...google him)

I'm very happy he's alive, well & still recording/touring.Thank u prince, allways wish u the best.x
