But...Prince, always remember, the feeling you get at your concerts...the love, the appreciation...IS the real THANG (among thousands and thousands)

You honestly don't have much more to prove, other than it takes balls to be and remain yourself out there in the mainstream, where souls are sold for hits, a pic on the magazine cover...

Stay who you are Prince, and always remember the LOVE you get at shows.

as humans, none of us are perfect.

Prince is also not perfect but he has

celebrated this imperfection in his music

for decades now. trying to find a balance

between, love, trust, sex & his view of the Creator.

for what it's worth, there's a difference between critique

for the purpose of reason and discussion, and

degradation into name-calling.

for those who have been listening to Prince for many

years, now more than ever there are opportunities to engage

his music beyond the flesh. he has new interests, or

perhaps he is expressing himself in more socially-aware

ways.

remember when Prince used to be wrongly judged for

his appearance and great fame, with many looking

beyond his exceptional skill and craft as a musician?

well, now...it's all about the music - the funk,

the beautiful-strangeness of it all.

I am not too knowledgeable about Meshell Nedgeocello's music, but apparently she's on a Prince Cover tour called Gett Off.

This post is not so much about the tour, but positive thangs she said about Prince in a recent interview:

Leslie Poster: Of all the artists that have influenced you, why cover Prince?

Meshell Ndegeocello: Nobody's like Prince. He was an alternative to everything, he wrote, he played, he sang, he danced, he wore crazy s---. There are plenty of people worth covering but Prince was as influential as it gets for me.

LP: How has Prince's music influenced your own music?

MN: It made me courageous, uncompromising, not worried about where and how to fit.

She does acknowledge that Prince appears to be not too keen on other's covering his sounds, by saying:

MN: I don't play these songs like he did. I arrange them my own way, try to offer a new interpretation, of course. He says he doesn't like it when people play his music but I think there are new ways to hear them.
