The Gold Experience?

I hear it mentioned quiet a bit but don't have it. Should I order a copy?

It's out of print so you might have a little trouble finding it but it's definitely worth having.

To me, it marks a clear case of when Prince started overproducing his music. More so than any album before it, I feel you can point to it and say, "Here! Here is where Prince started overproducing his music and not just letting the music speak for itself."

Even with that, it is still a great, amazing album. Yes, you should get it. Your Prince collection is nowhere near complete without it. Despite its flaws, it is brilliant.

I agree with the overproducing part. You kind of have to give at least partial blame to WB for that. Most of the material off of it was done by the end of 93 and it didn't get released until the summer of 95, which gave Prince a lot of time to toy with it and remove Days Of Wild from it! sad

Buy it and make up your own mind.

Despite it being out of print, it's very easy to find a copy in great condition. I buy and sell copies of this album all the time on ebay.

Imo, it's a fun and funky album.

If you are a big Prince fan yes.

To paraphrase HatrinaHaterwitz on another thread..

"90's Prince is like shopping at TJMaxx. It's a fucking mess going in but if you look hard enough, you tend to find a rare gem or two that makes up for it.

And to me, that sums up all of Prince's 90's work.

Yes you should. "Billy Jack Bitch" is on there, which is worth the price of the entire disk, in and of itself. lol

It's generally regarded as one of his strongest albums of the 90s. Some of it is a little dated for me (the segues, the overproduction in places), but there are some really stella songs: Endorphinmachine, Shhh, Billy Jack Bitch and I Hate U in particular.

I love the entire album! That was the last time I can definitively say that I was excited about every song and I wore that album out! You must have it. wink

I got mine last year at some store in my neighbourhood that sold used books, CDs, records, etc. for $5. I walked in randomly without any intention of buying anything nor did I expect to find a copy of The Gold Experience there.

Definitely his best album of the 90's, and one of his best of all time. Endorphinmachine, Shhh, Eye Hate U and Gold are classics. And, of course there's P Control and Most Beautiful Girl. I'm jealous of you hearing this album for the first time.

Buy it! Hell yes,

- it is funky like hell. music

Every track is great maybe apart from "We March":

The Gold Experience is the best Prince album of the 1990's,

and a Prince top 10 album, imo.

(I have 2 copies, but I'm not selling).

There's at least one much better, unreleased version of Gold floating around. This is why that album is so overproduced. At its heart, there's a good song inside Gold.

I have always felt the album was the closest thing Prince ever came to making an album version of a Saturday morning cartoon.
