UGO: What was the oddest celebrity interaction or meeting you've ever had?

"WEIRD AL" YANKOVIC: I'm going to say Prince. He and I were slated to be sitting in the same row at the American Music Awards many years ago, and I received a telegram from his management company requesting that I not establish eye contact with him during the show. I think this was the same year that he brought his bodyguard with him when he went up on stage to accept his awards (as if Kenny Rogers were going to pull a knife on him or something).

My friend his dad was a studio musician in the 80's worked with Prince was weird and never maintained eye contact much with people. And he said he heard rumors that Prince fired people that looked him the eyes...

What is with this looking in the eyes thing from the 80's i mean really

the lady who worked at Starbucks at the Rio Hotel in Las Vegas told me the entire staff was told not to look him in the eyes either

basically it just means "don't stare" and I think that is pretty reasonable

makes you wonder if that is why he has all those extras on stage that otherwise would have no careers

lol, never look Prince in the eye.. It was once said that a worker looked Prince in the eye and turned into a pillar of salt, another story is he once turned someone into stone. I don't think its the worry of firing someone, I think he doesn't want to be sued by their families I don't want to be another statue in his mansion, so I'll leave it alone.

He looked me right in the eye (from the stage) - me second row from the front - at 3121 Rio and kept looking at me for ages (thought I was gonna cry) so intense !!!

Al doesn't have to get permission to do a parody. He does so out of courtesy because he's nice.

It's funny how I got quite of few negative comments on my "How Big of An A**hole is Prince?" tread. It's stories like this that I was referring to...

different cultures and different people look at eye contact differently, people like prince in our american culture could be considered schizoid/antisocial just like most every other great rock star. Most of them have been known to be withdrawn and shy offstage, you take that kind of temperament and put him in a place where people are looking at you all the time and they won't react well all the time. Would you? It would wierd you out too I'm sure. Asian culture tend to avoid eye contact, as does my own Native culture as a sign of disrespect but you americans have a problem with it think someone is being deceptive or something. You should go hang around some middle easterners who like to get right up eyeball to eyeball, then you'd all be happy fuckers. Also, it's a power thing, I heard that people working on Hollywood sets are not allowed to make eye contact or look at the big wigs, so quit acting like Prince is alone. And I don't like people looking at me either, I just don't fucking like it.

I just think he's extremely shy .

^ Prince chose a profession where you're gonna have people looking at you - ALL the time, ESPECIALLY if you're a 5ft man dressed like Marie Antoinette.

Basically, he's a bit of dickish spoil sport who can't take a ribbing in good nature.

Today, that telegram would be circulated on the internet and made fun of. Especially at a Dick Clark award show.
