If he could, would he "delete" his Warner catalog from print?

For the sexual content?

Yes, but not for the sexual content. He just doesn't seem to have an interest in anything but ownership and a shelf to put it on.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

He has control over the way they're heard in concert.

Yes, but playing the songs promotes them and the albums they came from. In 2004 I saw him introduce a song and he said "from the album Sign o the Times..."

If he really wanted to delete his past, he would finally stop playing DMSR and Let's Work so people would not leave the concert and buy those nasty albums the next day...or he would at least release those remasters he was talking about

At least, that's what I believe, but Prince is a strange individual, who knows what he thinks?

I doubt he'd delete something that's been in print for decades. He might disown it or write some sort of disclaimer about certain songs, but I think he'd still release it. If not, people would just put out bootleg versions or the price of the Warner CDs that are going to always be out there will just become collectible.

It's kind of like why he put Black Album out... to stop people from spending money on bootlegs of it, and to get out of his WB contract. It's not something he wanted out, but had a good reason to put it out.

yeahthat

Not 2 mention he plays the Hits all the time, rather in joy or not, there money makers for him. plus it would take 2 much effort to delete or edit his back catalog, he would loose intrest. He has a choice not to play certain songs, and the right to complain, just like we have the right to purchase the old stuff biggrin

And he knows this. Besides if he even "delete" it, he'd be in the poor house and he knows that. He ain't stupid. Those records are a part of his legacy, ain't a damn thing he could do about it. It's history and will always be part of his legacy. It's what made him PRINCE.

plus he just made a big deal about not wanting people to cover his stuff, so he ovbiously sees his recordings as classic art, definitive

I don't think he would ever pull them from print, because it has always been his intention to put out a lot of product and be number one at the bank. I think he is embarrassed by some of his antics back in the day and for a while I believe he was leaning toward putting out edited versions when he got the right deal in place. But I think the negative reaction to a lot of his edited outtakes released over the last couple of years may have wisened him against imploying that strategy. So who knows? I wouldn't be surprised if he stopped selling them one day.

A lot of big name musicians that don't own their masters have the same fantasy.

As if they can unleash the lightening in a bottle anytime they want, because who values the original recordings or studio work itself? While they're at it, why not fix those hits?

It's George Lucas syndrome.

This is why, if you use The Cloud to store your music, make sure you have copies of the originals at home....

One day you may pull up your music in The Cloud only to find new "definitive" versions have replaced your old "outdated" versions.

Not dead, not in prison, still funkin'...

It's possible that, if he ever releases digital remasters, we might get both a censored version and an uncensored version (possibly bundled together so that everyone has to buy the censored version). Hip-hop CDs are regularly released in both censored and uncensored formats.

I still think that the release of uncensored remasters on vinyl is an indication that he has no plans to destroy his potty mouth children.
