I've never understood why the date is different in usa, are the they only country to do it like that?

Ask me today's date and you'll hear - "it's the 9th of June 2011" I'd write it 09/07/11 yet we still refer to 9/11 but that's probably because the US does or maybe it's the only way to keep the 'irony' of 911 intact...who knows

It's logical to have the day before the month. As you are going in order of precision. The most precise part of the date is the day, then the month, then the year.

I believe the USA is the only country who is month/day/year. We should get with the program and be like the rest of the world.

Almost every country, apart from the U.S uses d/m/y, because it's logical. You give the most detailed information first. Plus, in most other languages you also do it in spoken language. In German, we say "sein Geburtstag war am 7. Juni" ("his birthday was on June 7th/the 7th of June").
