Imaginative

Days of Soundboard

Anyone have track information (date/venue) for this compilation? What years does it take from?

You'll really have to do some homework on the Vol 1 tracks, but it should be relatively easy as the majority of the material came directly from Prince in some form. For instance, 1. Jam Of The Year 2. Face Down - Originally from a cassette sold on 1-800-NEW FUNK and at concerts - New York, NY 1/11/97.

You can do a song title search here to get all the answers: http://www.princevault.co.../Main_Page

COMMENT

This compilation contains soundboard snippets that were shared on various online editions of Prince's homepages over the years. Most of them originate from small quicktime video-files and online streams. Everything has been tweaked and mixed to give it a nice flow.

Yes, but I would probably prefer to use the phrase "official channels," wink as they were not really physical releases.

I suppose that these two releases is the only way a lot of people will be able to get this stuff.

Oh yeah, this is true indeed, though the real difference is between "releases" (i.e. downloads) and "broadcasts" (i.e. streamings).

I wish the 3121.com video streamings were all included as well.

I don't want to sound pessimistic, but I'm more and more convinced that those releases ("Days of Soundboard"), releases such as "Work It 2.0", 7"/12" compilations, and many bootlegs are the only way we'll get some of the music Prince recorded ("official" or not). I mean, even if he died, everything would not be released (or re-released). And, then, there's the problem of the tapes that are deteriorating (see Chronic Freeze thread, etc.).

Fans as archivists. I like that concept.

Agreed.

Actually I was wondering which (free) software I could use to put all these random non-album tracks from different sources at a similar volume level.

Maybe Audacity?

Mmmh, I thought so but the only way I found to do it with AC quickly saturates the sound. Isn't there a way to do it without damaging the sound quality and balance?
