Cool, it is so interesting to see people of such different styles who can appreciate each other.

But then, I like Guns 'n' Prince, too, so there you go.

That dude was a mess in the nineties. Glad he got his shit together. Guns N' Roses opening for Aerosmith in 1988 was my first concert. I saw Prince not long after.

Cool article. But why do people get tongue-tyed when it comes to Prince? He's only human.

super interesting article, thanks for the post... maybe this is ridiculous but did prince ever open with 'little red corvette?' i checked all the inglewood setlists at princevault but i don't see a night with that opener.. plenty of 1999 and then LRC. maybe duff was late? smile

I recently read an GNR Biography recently and even a GUns fan myself-saw them in the very late 80's/early 90's great show..ANyway, in the book it was mentioned a few times that he was huge heavy duty Prince fan...I did not know that prior to the book..Good link.

I just read that on facebook.

Bottom line: Prince is the most awe-inspiring, most prolific, most talented, most endlessly creative gay artist of the last century, period!....period!

I scrolled down and read the comments, this one is interesting-

for those interested,I overheard Richard Chycki(a badass engineer),talking the other night after the HOB show and he said that the new Prince album is complete,Chycki engineered it and it is being billed as a guitar recordIt will be released possibly on the RoadRunner label and the title is supposedly "Black Muse".
just sayin...

i will piss myself if prince releases an album on chad kroeger's label (roadrunner)

that would be hilarious.

that label has brought forth some of the worst recorded material in history to the masses. with dickelback leading the race.

Roadrunner is HARDLY "Chad Kroeger's label". Nickelback aren't even the biggest selling act on Roadrunner, and it existed for YEARS and was successful before them.

I don't see Prince releasing an album with them though. With a couple of notable exceptions, like Nickelback and one Ice-T album (I think it was 7 Deadly Sins) that came out through them, they are primarily a heavy metal label. Many of my favorite metal bands are on there, like Soulfly, Slipknot, Machine Head, Killswitch Engage, Stone Sour, Murderdolls, Megadeth, and Sepultura.

Having said that - Lenny Kravitz' new album is coming out this August in a joint venture with Roadrunner and Atlantic. So I suppose it's not out of the realms of possibility that if Prince has done a harder rock record, he could do the same.

This is the second time Richard Chycki's name has come up. He's primarily known as Rush's engineer. I asked him on Twitter if he had worked on the new Prince record, and while he neither confirmed or denied it directly, his reponse seemed to indicate that it was not true.

my bad, you're right i was thinking of 604 which is his label that i think is partnered up with roadrunner.

it seems to me for the last 5 or so years there's always rumours of a prince guitar heavy album.. i think he tried that with lotusflower, i'm really not sure what the demand is for an album full of 'dreamer.' or maybe there is? i don't know...
