Since the days of Soft and Wet, Sexy Dancer, I Wanna Be Your Lover. I was hooked after hearing his songs on the radio. Then after that my friend's older bro let me borrow Dirty Mind so I could listen to Head. Some of my faves are after 1999, but most are from the 1999 era or before. 1999 is my overall favorite. Purple Rain and afterwards, I pick out certain songs I like the funk, punk/funk and R & B Prince. Yes, old school with it. My first Prince concert was Prince, The Time, and Vanity 6.

31 years- I was 9 years old in 1980 when Dirty Mind came out- My older cousin Debbie used to sneak the vinyl into the living room of my aunts house and play it while my mom was distracted upstairs talking with relatives. I remember hearing that album and I was forever changed.

Bought Dirty Mind in 1980 with my babysitting money at the age of 16. For You, Prince and Controversy soon followed. I believe my first show was the Controversy Tour, but it might have actually been the 1999 Tour, which I got to see in both Minneapolis while home for spring break from college and Milwaukee when back in school. I remember being struck by how the Milwaukee crowd was much more diverse than Minneapolis (and how stupid Vanity 6 was). If I wasn't hooked by then, I certainly was when I was able to see him at First Avenue (6 weeks after becoming legal age in Minnesota) for the Minnesota Dance Theatre benefit where he introduced all the music for Purple Rain. My most recent shows were in LA on March 5 and 6 of this year. Love seeing him evolve and he's still so darn sexy and entertaining!

And in 1982 I took a couple hundred copies of the local music newspaper that had a huge picture of Prince on the cover and wallpapered my entire dorm room (including the ceiling). People came from all over the dorm to see "The Prince Room." Would do it again today if I had the time!

29 years. I was 13 years old. The Controversy album covered intrigued me, so I bought it and loved it. Since then I was hooked, and I've bought every album on the day of it's release. I'm really fortunate to be a fan of someone who has consistently released material and continued to perform at a high level. Prince is a living legend. The Time's debut album came out and then the Controversy single dropped. I chased down Prince and Dirty Mind and was hooked ever since. Thirty Years.
In regards to Prince I'm a fan, In regards to music I'm a fanatic!!

Me too! You know, Joel Whitburn once wrote on one of his "Top 40 Singles" book series, that the music you love at ages 13 and 14 is the music you'll always consider the best period ever in your lifetime. Even though I stay current and varied in my music tastes, I always come back to Prince circa 1984-85 and his chart-topping peers peers (i.e., Madonna, Def Leppard, MJ, Phil Collins, etc.) just for nostalgic purposes.

27 years - I was 13. I then went straight out, with pocket money, and bought every back album I could find. Was so naive back then - Mum (RIP) used to tell a story of me listening to Purple Rain with headphones on and singing Darling Nikki with my Nan in the room. I had no idea what she was doing with that magazine!! We won't mention Head, Sister, Jack u off etc etc etc etc etc.... - kids nowadays are too grown up.
I have been blessed to have him in my life for all those years xxx "Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift - that's why they call it the present." -RW Emerson
