jpnyc, I don't understand the purpose of your sarcasm. I don't think the white community only loves him for his rock songs. However, we must acknowledge a vast difference in musical tastes for much of our two communities.

I stated my race as a way of bridging an understanding. There seems to be less of an appreciation on this board for Prince's R&B than for his other genres. I only wanted to give a bit of insight into Prince's major influence on urban radio.

No need for sarcasm, just understanding.

TOTALLY love your choice for #1 though, thats my favourite ballad, 80s track, SOTT track and overall Prince song as well.

I think he is taking issue with you placing each of us in different "communities" based solely on the color of our skin. It does seem very 20th Century to me, as well. (Not in a good way.)

Keep em coming folks. I am creating new playlists as you post them to see how songs flow together.

I am black, and I love all of Prince's music. I honestly can't say that I like any particular genre over another. But I do agree with the mrInsatiable. Prince's ballads have gone much further on urban radio than his rock, jazz, etc. It really isn't that debatable. It just is what it is. I don't think he was trying to pit one group against another.

However, I don't think that the Org has been lacking in appreciation threads about ballads. I think that mrInsatiable may just be new to the Org. Welcome mrInsatiable!

Dude a lot of white PRince fans love his ballads too...

Are u equating Ballads with Slow Jams?

Nothing Compares 2 U was sung by 2 'white' people originally and they did it well. And Sinead OConnor loved it so much she covered it.

Bet she loves his ballads 2

Just for the record: I'm not being sarcastic, but how do you define a ballad?

I never thought of Beautiful Strange as a ballad, for instance. I love Slow Love, but don't know if that's a "ballad" or just a "slow jam".

I assume "The Ballad of Dorothy Parker" would qualify.
