Who or what are the seven (7) Prince is talking about in his song titled 7? Who or what are the seven people or things that Prince refers to in that song?

Some listeners think that he was talking about the 7 big record companies at the time, and that Prince was predicting their inevitable downfall. I wish I could elaborate but I don't know all the details.

It references passages in the Apocalypse of John (book of revelation).

Wasn't there also a loose storyline about the 7 men out to kill Mayte's father over 3 chains O gold because she was the (not Egyptian) Princess of Egypt or Cairo or some wackinessiness like that?

--Yep. Just watched the video again. That forced Mayte to kiss a bunch of kids and give them unrealistic images of females while Prince killed himself 7 times.

You should really track down the entire 3 Chains movie. It's utterly abysmal, but in a good, train wreck way.

I've been hearing this song on the radio once in a while for the past couple of months. I don't recall if I heard it when it was out and on the charts when it first came out (I think that was a period that I wasn't listening to the radio so...). But must've been a hit or something for them to play it on that station.
