Prince lyrics that annoy you Mine: "Why settle 4 a star when u can have the sun?"
I like The Continental as a song but find that line annoying. The sun of course is a star and not a very impressive one at that. Much bigger, hotter and brighter stars are out in the universe.

I have heard a lot of people complain about this line. It never really bothered me though. Yes, the sun is a star, but being closer to Earth, it's much brighter to us than any other star out there. I think that is what he was going for. How about, in "Race" he says, "Thank God this ain't monopoly, you'd make us all go back to start" Monopoly doesn't have a "start", it has a 'GO".

I considered that interpretation but think it much more likely he just didn't know the sun is a star. Just like how he manages to completely misinterpret evolution in my other one.
Good one from Race. He doesn't know how to play Monopoly either clearly.

Could he have meant "the Wild West"? Mexico to California, the old cowboy film route.

I always thought he was making a dig at a theory in Philosophy (which he has suggested he doesn't care for) which seeks to prove that God does not exist? [Edited 6/3/11 12:44pm] "Aren't you even curious? Don't you want to see the dragon behind the door?"

Why don't you care for the Kiss lyrics?
Dynasty, I believe, was a Soap Opera...all about the drama? So the attitude comment would make some since.
"The Twirl" was slang for have sex
My love will be your food seems to be a response to the saying that "Love conquers all/ all we need is love." People usually reply with "love can't put food on the table." His response is that it actually can? "Aren't you even curious? Don't you want to see the dragon behind the door?"

hahahah.. right.. I HATED THAT.. SHA BOOGIE bop..WTF MAN.. and I hate all of Prince's NPG "RAPS" as well and the fools he had rappin with him.. they were just corny and unacceptable.. not really emcees at all.. and this was during his "I hate hip hop" period.. I missed that hole Cream, Sexy Motherfucker, era although i loved the music in SMF.. but his steez was just suspect.. and corny.. During those years i just relished in what was..
OH yeah I also didn't like " I'm over 30 and I don't smoke weed... SO ..LOL.. I AM OVER 30 AND I DO..
Prince i love u but please stop preaching to me.. about shit . let me just enjoy you.. Thank U.. I strangled Valentino, you been mINE ever since.. If anybody asks.. U BELONG TO PRINCE...

He seems to be saying that a key part of "the evolution principle" is rocks on the shore have always been there. I've never heard anyone say that, expert nor believer in evolution.

Colonized Mind. Prince has written a lot of horrible lyrics, getting progressively worse since the 1990s, but Colonized Mind makes Prince sound about as crazy and stupid as Sarah Palin. He should have just made it an instrumental.

This indeed has to be the worst line he ever recorded. Even if it was meant to be some kind of joke (listening to the vocals this must have been the objective), it just isn't funnny and definately not a subject for joking around with. There must have been a reason this otherwise great song didn't get released and this mus be it. Prince can consider himself lucky this line didn't get any publicitly, would have been a serious PR problem...
YUCK!

Perhaps what Prince is expressing here is, although a star is beautiful from afar, it gives off no heat to the planet earth. While the sun makes us earthlings warm and happy in a feel good kind of way.

Nah. There's plenty of great unreleased songs with no questionable lyrics.
The original "Jerk Out" had a line in it that Mazarati allegedly weren't too happy with, the lyrics were:
So when The Time re-did it, they simply changed it to:
No reason why that line wouldn't have been taken out of "Extra Loveable" had it been released. Plus, it's been said that Prince considered giving the song to Vanity 6 at one stage anyway. |

Colonized Mind had already been released sans the ignorant lyrics by Miriam Makeba, it's called Quit It. It's a total sham that Prince fans seem to regard Colonized Mind as one of his modern displays of his genius:

YES! AND even if you do go back to "Go", you get $200! Sounds like a good deal to me.
Return of the Bumpsquad: "add an e to rap and it spells rape" - WHAT? What does that have to do with Nona Gaye selling records???
Judas Smile: "How dare you call a robot 'Mecha'" - oy vey. Homophones, dude. Homophones.
Don't Play Me: "I'm not the ganda you prop in my way"... in fact any of this mid-90's word games. Dude needs an etymology book.

Maybe he was trying to be smart? Taking a picture of someone is pretty personal, it captures them in that moment "forever."
The second line could be taken two ways, 1) buy it ($) which turns Prince into a commodity, or 2) buy it (as in belief)
Third line if (1) is true: Prince doesn't understand the act of regarding himself as a commodity, as an image to be bought and sold at will. He isn't willing to pay money for his projected self.
Third line if (2) is true, Prince can't buy into the belief that what the image captures is who he actually is. He doesn't know how to regard himself from the eye of the other? "Aren't you even curious? Don't you want to see the dragon behind the door?"
