Horrid is a great word to describe a lot of his musical output over the last 15 years or so. Every once in a while he gives us a decent song.

Kinda sad now that he has to rely on tours where he plays mostly stuff that is older. Remember that song "Don't Play Me" where he said his only competition was him in the past?

Well looks like his past self is winning by a mile these days.

Too bad he can't manage his money better. If he could, we would probably get to see him do small tours where he plays mostly new stuff - kinda like the ONA tour.

If you think his new music is so bad then why do you want him touring it?

Guitar was a very good single, just a shame he didn't promote it since it had a video and even a *gasp* physical release - somewhere in the world it did any way, where was it, a little hamlet in Liechtenstein, Vatican City or somewhere?

My only grips with it were the auto-pilot styling of it (take two tablespoons of Cream, mix with a little Peach, and add just a dash of twincest in the video) - and the lazy lyrical phrasing, which many tracks over the past decade or so have suffered from, probably a product of quick songwriting/recording and general disinterest on Prince's part. But these are actually small grips for a song I still listen to and always add to comps of later material etc.

you can say you dont like some of his stuff, you can say some of the stuff in the last decade has been bland and boring, but NOTHING he has ever released deserves to be called horrid

Almost nothing. Wedding Feast anyone?

Those songs were princes "inspiration" for the song guitar. And he didn't change much.

Not a mix. On the title track he used the chorus of Barry Manilows "Could it be magic". And please compare the whole groove of Chelsea Rodgers with the disco funk track "Any time or place" from the band Azoto.

I listened to Azoto "Any Time or Place" Of course the beat sounds a little bit alike but there are so many funk songs which groove is like that wink

But "Could it be magic" where is the similarity? You gotta help me out! lol

Oh come on, it is SOOOO obvious. I remember when the album first came out nearly everybody here and on other fansites immediately mentioned the obvious similarity. Just relisten to both songs and you'll hear it. If not, go seek a doctor.

My least favorite songs are Hot Summer, Purple and Gold, Free, You Got The Look, Baby Knows(studio), Song of the Heart(studio) and some others. To me Planet Earth as a whole is just not his best of the 2000's. Some of it is totally awesome and some is well just not. I like his other newer music way better. Most material from 2001 to now I like as a whole. The weird thing is it also has some of my favorite newer songs like Planet Earth and Lion of Judah.

biggrin

The 'Could it be magic' part in 'Planet Earth' is after the second verse I think. The 'Could it be magic' lyrics 'spirits move me, high upon a hillside' fit perfectly, I always find myself singing them in the section.

About 'Guitar' - its not too bad in my opinion. I think 'Resolution' is far worse.

I'm not going to seek a doctor but will relisten both songs, that should be enough.

Um not sure, but its somewhere in his 90's collection of work for sure, some of his songs from the 90's were just plain horrid eyepop

My opinion: It would be Face Down, I cant even listen to it. sad

Then again I'm sure on another day, I could name one just as worse, not 2 mention I havent heard every Prince song, have not heard any of NEWS & have heard very little off Come & The Black album

"How Can I Stand To..Stay Where I Am? Poor Butterfly Who..Dont Understand." P

I pretty much agree. Even though it sounds so formulaic and rock-by-numbers, it isn't dreadful. Just a bit 'mneh'.

How copme nobody else notices the similarity between the insturmental break in Christopher Cross's "Sailing" and the part in "Planet Earth"?

Personally I think Prince has always pastiched influences together. Is that a word?

The chords of "Avalanche" are like the beginning of "The Stranger" by Billy Joel.

I still like the songs. The Beatles pastiched together their influences many times too. Oh my god, I used it again.
