UTCM was meant to be camp and comedy. lol It's cool for those purposes. However, I don't think you can get anyone in here to say GB was a good film at all. lol

It is actually not nearly as inept as we first thought. The acting is probably better than Purple Rain, the music scenes, not so much. It's very stylish and silly.

But it captures Prince's weirdness in the right way, where Graffiti Bridge captures it in the wrong way. Purple Rain captures his performance best.

I love this movie, I watched it over and over again a few weeks ago, it's a fun watch. It's fun seeing Prince act silly and think "wow he's the one who makes all that amazing music". I also love the glittery clothing and the carelessness of sleeping around, and of course the music is GREAT cool

LayDownMisty

I remember this movie because it was playing in the theater that I worked at in high school. I was an usher and used to sweep up shit during the credits, like all ushers do (except in Japan).

I would get caught up in watching "Mountains" while sweeping up crap every time. This movie actually made me become a bigger fan. Well, the soundtrack at least.

Prince - not black, not white........just COOL

UTCM makes me smile every time I watch it - it's hilarious! (except for the end of course that actually made me cry back in the day!).

However, just once I would like to experience the color version! (I wonder if it still exists?)

What about a prequel? Christopher in his early days. Except that Prince is probably a bit too old to play a young Christopher. He could still write and direct it though?

The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

Unfortunately, Kristin hasn't won an oscar yet, was nominated for the English Patient, should've been for Gosford Park and I've Loved You So Long (imho). Hopefully she will win one day, she's as talented or more than some who have oscars on their mantles.

Got it!

The Bride of Under the Cherry Moon!

Tricky, obsessed with the untimely demise of his late friend Christopher, has evicted all the tenants from his high-rise apartment complex in Miami, and turned it into a dark, spooky castle. He orders Katie (who never really had a mind of her own, anyway) out into the city to find a brain for Christopher's corpse, which Tricky has recently recovered through his nefarious underworld contacts.

Katie recovers the brain of the also-recently-expired Larry Graham, and brings it back to Tricky's spooky castle/laboratory. During a crashing storm of thunder and lightning (see, it ties into theSuperbowl, see??), Chrisopher is brought back to life with a 'sea of electricity'.

Tricky cries, "Damn Chris, Damn! My man! You've returned". Chris croaks, "Shut up already, damn...", and rising from the table, takes his symbol guitar in his hand and groans, "I'm gonna kick me some Isaac Sharon ass." Then he shambles off for Nice, France (I don't know how he'll get there... maybe on a creaky old steamer boat, like in King Kong!).

But lo! Frustrated by a life of celibacy, the now-aged Mary Sharon has turned to a life of science as well, and has learned of the evil undead Christopher coming to lay the spooky smack down on her father. Does Dr. Mary Sharon destroy the abomination, cutting short its plan to murder a father that she, herself hates? Does she surrender to true love, justice, and the sight of Chris's reanimated butt in those sexy outfits?? Does Tricky allow her to take either course, or does he murder her first, so that he can once again have Christopher all to himself???

I dont think its the best movie, But it actually has some great scenes/moments. Im in love with the film layout/backdrop/art/wardrobe/etc. It was nicely shot, just terribly written & potrayed. But its a cult classic, how can u hate this film? An Honest Man scene is enough reason to watch it @ least the 1st 10mins sad

I actually love it (when I find Purple Rain quite boring and poorly directed save the musical sequences). UTCM is childish, sure, but it's a lovely romantic comedy if u get in2 it. I guess I must have showed it to most of my (non Prince fans) girlfriends and they all liked it: a girl's movie maybe? lol

Graffiti Bridge, well... it's such an oddity that I love it just 4 being so weird lol

PR boring and GB lovingly weird?

PR is exciting non stop, a partial reality into the 1979-1984 Prince

I was just watchin' PR the other day and I was laughin' at myself for knowin' the dialog ... LoL

There's a Charlie Rose interview from the late 90s, where she's asked about her 1st big break and she credits him & UTCM. The interview was during his no-name phase and she admitted they were still friends at that time. Lucky girl, young in the South of France in the 80s, kising on one of the hottest rock stars of the time (even though it was for a film) - living the dream! cloud9

"Graffiti Bridge" is the ABSOLUTE WORST film ever. There are no redeeming factors in this movie. "Under The Cherry Moon" has some GREAT music, SOME of the scenes are comical and quite enjoyable. However, the kiss scene is horrible. I was truly embarrassed to watch it. Prince acted as if he had never kissed anyone before(we all know that he has). It was just terrible. Prince is not a very natural or good actor, IMO. "Purple Rain" was saved by the outstanding music. I shudder to think what that film would have been like without the music and Morris Day. Morris saved the movie.
