Prince's old neighborhood destroyed by tornado

Its very sad. maybe he could come home to his beloved north minneapolis and throw a concert??? I'm sure he will cut a check, but it would be great for the people in this tragic time and boost the morale if he came back and played a benefit concert.

... perfect time for a 'home-coming'. Swing over to First Ave hit a few other spots. I'd be down to fly to Mpls and 'Party Up' with Prince & The NPG. I pray everyone hit by the recent tornado's can turn things around to the positive and be well.

i'm surprised at how much damage there is. I drove thru there this morning and theres cop cars on every corner, people sleeping in tents, and lots of misplaced pets. Who better to perfom a benefit than our own native son........... neutral

the house "the time" rehearsed in when they were still "flyte tyme" was badly damaged if not destroyed. that house was a few doors down from the house prince grew up in. with all the musicians that came out of mpls or benefited from the mpls sound/connection there should be lots of folks with reason to help.

Would be great if Prince somehow helped his neighborhood, either through a direct monetary

donation, or a benefit concert, preferably the latter.yes

'Northside' benefit concert set for June 12

  • Article by: CHRIS RIEMENSCHNEIDER
  • Updated: May 26, 2011 - 10:02 AM

North Minneapolis residents rocked by Sunday's tornado will soon get help from what promises to be a rocking benefit concert.

Some of the Twin Cities most prominent musicians, including Sounds of Blackness, Soul Asylum and Robert Robinson, are lining up to perform at "Northside: A Twin Cities Community Benefit," on June 12 at the State Theatre. Robinson and members of Sounds are some of the many participating performers who have called north Minneapolis home, along with Tonia Hughes, Sara Renner and Triad 4 Christ. Invitations have also gone out to a few members of musical "royalty" with North Side roots (If you have to ask, think about a glyph).

Other confirmed participants include Brian "G.B." Leighton, Billy McLaughlin, Billy and Paul Peterson, and the event's chief organizer, folk activist Larry Long.

Ticket information has not yet been finalized. Details will be posted at www.HennepinTheaterTrust.org.

Proceeds will go to the Minneapolis Foundation's North Minneapolis Fund, which has committed to matching funds raised by the concert.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

POSTPONED: ARMS AROUND THE NORTHSIDE

FREE BENEFIT CONCERT

Minneapolis, MN

Actually, the event has been postponed until August - date TBD. We started working on this the Monday after the Tornado. Lots to do with getting sponsors, performers, food, permits, equipment, etc. The momentum just kept growing in planning of this event. We were hustling like crazy. We have now been contacted by other major Artists that had their beginnings in the Northside. They wanted to participate but could not do so on such short notice. It would mean alot to have them participate. And so it will be an even bigger event when it does happen.
I will keep you informed as the time draws near.
