It's 1:30 A.M. on the W. Coast and "Purple Rain" is trending on Twitter. WHY? It seems to be 98% young girls, and it seems to have something to do with Justin Bieber, but I can't quite figure it out. Does anyone know what's up?

“Purple Rain” trends on Twitter; Joe Jonas responsible

hollywoodnews.com: A funny thing happened after Joe Jonas posted a photo of purple confetti next to his feet via Yfrog yesterday. The comment he added to his tweet, “Purple Rain”, caused the phrase to begin to trend—then tweeters everywhere stopped talking about Jonas’ random and unextraordinary photo and started talking about Prince’s 1984 song and film.

The term is still trending, in no small part to a number of Twitter users remarking on the fact that such an unexpected term has meandered into conversation. Such activity, of course, only makes the term trend even more. Behold the power of an offhanded comment, Joe Jonas, and his more than 2 million followers.
