Okay, but I still dont get it - and it seems like a lot of people on here dont:

Why, according to this defintion, would the following songs qualify:

Beautiful Strange, Little Red Corvette, I Wish U Heaven, Reflection, Dreaming About U

?

I don't think none of them do though. neutral They're mid-tempo at best...

I don't think (according 2 that definition) that tempo has anything to do with it. It's about the writing and lyrical content

Well then that definition is inaccurate if you're buying that because I wouldn't even call LRC anything close to a ballad in the traditional sense. Maybe a rock ballad but a ballad in general? Nah.

From Wikipedia: "The most common use of the term ballad in modern pop music is for an emotional love song."

Well, it seems to me that "ballad" is more of a contextually defined word. What if we changed the lyrics of "Adore" with the words of for instance "The Cross" og "Sign O the Times". Would it then stop being a ballad?

I think first we have to establish the definition of ballad and rock. With a clear cut off for both genres.

Then we have to move to the next subject of what is white and what is black? And a very clear cut off for both races.

And decide what if there is anything in between ballad and rock for Prince songs.

And if there is anything in between black and white. Is skin colour the pivotal defining construct, or is culture or geographical background decisive?

Welcom to the org OP wink

BTW. Have many favorite ballads, however Solo still is my most fave because of it's purity.
