I like it a lot. But I could do without the latin jazz interlude and the daa da da da da da's it comes with.

I like it, and I gravitate towards moments of it, but I feel it has the potential to be more than what it is. smile

I like the album, but this song always seemed trifling and passable to me. Nice guitar work at the end.

8 out of 10. Its different than anything prince has ever done before it, interesting stuff, not classic but a good song anyway

Overblown, but not terrible. There's good moments. The religious lyrics kill it for me.

Hey, it's Prince so I won't diss too much, but this song just set a really depressing tone that the album never recovered from IMO.

I like the song. It's one of my favorite tracks on the album. I give it an 8.5 out of 10. biggrin

I love how the mood of the track changes so considerably with the middle section. Definitely has a Revolution era vibe to it due to all those changes (although it's a vibe I recognize from the outtakes and not so much from the released albums).

I'll give it either 8 or 9.

I concur. It's not a terrible track, but this is old ground for Prince, so it gets a shrug from me, I like PE a lot, but I cherry pick from it and tend to turn a blind eye to what I don't like.

With its soft piano and vocal intro Planet Earth quickly drifts into a Princely rock-opera with crescendos a plenty. An interesting song to kick off the album, I always felt it was a more of a closer track than an opener. And for all its pomposity the breakdown at 2:39 is light and airy and salvages the song from being too overly blown, but just. I always felt that in these types of song Prince was just trying a little too hard to show his musical prowess as both composer and performer.
