It's my impression that he is referring to a boob job-in other words you cant see past your boobs or cant see beyond your way of thinking, or most likely both? (This theory is reinforced by his hand movements while performing the song.)

Yeah I was wondering the same thing about this line, the last time I was playing this song. Yeah, who knows what he was talking about---maybe it's a metaphor for being real instead of fake or something...

For me, its exactly as kewlschool and seventeendaze have mentioned - its a typical Prince double entendre. The joke being that the phrase points to "your" girlfriend who's had plastic surgery and now can't physically see past her breasts (a funny image in itself), whilst metaphorically impyling that, by being fake and "not seeing past yourself", you don't see the world as Prince does - in fact, you're missing something!

I love it as a lyric and it seems to have got people thinking about it, which is a good thing. It also fits in with the attitude of the song, which is largely a tongue-in-cheek, self-aggrandising stance based on Prince's time and achievments as a musician (as opposed to a lot of the posturing in music which come from no basis at all!).

What she'd be missing is Prince's different but still fictional, (and thereby fake) view of the world. Prince may not have literal breasts obscuring his view, but he most certainly has metaphorical breasts of his own design keeping him in Fantasy Land. How is HIS fake worldview different than HER fake worldview? Is it just because he pays LIP SERVICE to concepts like faith, hope and charity? Prince's accomplishments as a musician in NO WAY qualify above ANYONE ELSE to make spiritual, financial, political or moral pronouncements.

You seem to be taking this far too seriously and are assuming that I am doing the same! I just interpreted the lyric - a musician bragging is hardly likely to change my world-view!

You misunderstand. I'm not taking it seriously at all. I'm having a blast. Where else can one speak of metaphorical breasts and upset someone. Maybe they call it trolling? I don't know. I think it's great fun to bother people who actually take this garbage seriously while pretending to be intense about a subject that warrants no serious thought.

I enjoy nothing but his music. The legend, the myth, etc... hold nothing for me. I'm post modern, baby.
