Kiss.
I didn't have much $ when this was released so I never bought any albums unless I heard them first. This was the first time I bought a record without hearing any other songs or waiting for reviews. Bought it the day it was released I was so sure it would be great. And it is.

I heard that on the radio and loved it, went to the music store and bought the 8 track...
THEN I heard soft N wet...
and I put 1 and 1 together and figured out that they were by the same person...some guy named "Prince"
so I went and bought that 8 track.
Fell in love with both albums in their entirety

Exactly...I was eight years old and thought that the song was by DeBarge initially.

When I was in High School,I had a major crush on a guy who could rip Bambi apart on his guitar!!!

Ahhh...memories!

I had a friend who tried for years to get me into Teena Marie. I liked Portuguese Love, Square Biz, the popular stuff but still resisted... until I heard "I'll Have My Cake and Eat It Too" :O and "You Make Love Like Springtime" omg and "Tune in Tomorrow" omfg I hopped onboard QUICK! biggrin

Oh My...u also must check out
"De Ja Vu"...
"How can you resist it"...
"shadow boxing"...
"pretty man"...
"You so heavy"...
and "1st class love"

Just to name some of the top few in my book.
Teena is one bad lady...

LOL! Just tell 'em to go to the Music: Non-Prince boards and look around! We've definitely had our fair share of Lady Tee conversations over there! Also, check out Yes Indeed from the It Must Be Magic CD! Absolute underrated classic!!!

I wanna see Teena at the park...keep up the lady T talk here...Prince has got to love her, how could he not.
The beautiful words she uses, her beautiful sound, her passion , her sultry voice...the feeling that comes over you while listening to Teena...shes got the same effect as the man Prince...to see them on stage together, or even just back to back shows...Good Gawd what an experience THAT would b...imma make this a post in its own!

1999 introduced me to Prince's music way back in 82'. But what really got me hooked was hearing 17 Days for the first time. I wore my 45 out!

One song wasn't enough. It's the story an album tells.

The Purple Rain album was first. Borrowed it from my boyfriend, stayed up until 4:00 am listening on the headphones over and over. I thought, "Wow! Great album!" I wanted more.

Got 1999 and listened to it non-stop. I was deep in for the moment.

Got the rest of his albums: For You, Prince, Dirty Mind, Controversy. INCREDIBLE!!! But where's he gonna go next?

ATWIAD and I was hooked for life!
I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, keep me here.

Yea, I'm up on most of my Teena now, I was just naming a few that turned me out smile Still can't get w/ the whole Cassanova Brown phase/album, but I dig her earlier stuff (Wild & Peaceful, Irons in the Fire, It Must Be Magic). I don't have Lady T though, how's that one?? smile

Hmm... old thread, but i'm fresh n new up in here so... lol

what made me a die-hard...I remember being into Michael Jackson from the time I started listening to what mom and pop put on the wrecka playa..mainly the Jacksons' Philly period. Then one day I was at my big bro's house messing with his vinyl (like i wasn't supposed 2) and I put on "I wanna be your lover". The tune was so catchy that i had liked it on the radio, but listening to the lyrics really for the first time was different. When the song said "..i wanna be your brother, ...mother and sister too.. there ain't no other that can do the things that i'll do to you.." I was just a little kid, but for real, I was like .. W-Wait, hold up...what the heck is this dude talkin about? The dualism of the lyrics, plus the sensual sexuality all hit me at once...and i was hooked!
