I don't think I can fully get my brain around what you're asking, but to break it down to it's lowest common denomonator:
I'd prefer to buy a slamming album released by a gay Prince than a mediocre MPLSound type album by a straight Prince.
He's used the sexual ambiguity from day one taking in Uptown, Controversy, genderbending 'boy or girl' lyrics, assless pants and mankinis.
In fact, it's only when he stopped such antics that his music lost that edge in my opinion. So I say bring it on. He needs to get his tiny purple ass back in that dressing up box, smear his face with makeup, climb into a pair of chaps, high heels & complementary lace croptop and falsetto his way back into androgony. Bring it on!

^ I agree! He has shifted to a more heterosexual man. I loved his androgyne looks.
Let's hope he can get in touch with the gay man in himself again and flaunt it!

You have the same enjoyment listening to Ricky Martin as you do Prince? Wow.

I never cared one way or the other. I did not care when people called me gay for loving Prince's music. If anything it encoraged me to listen more. Once my dad and step mother confrunted me on the issue. So that night I hung every prince poster I could find all over my room! That ended all debate. A few weeks later I took them down. My step mom asked me about it. I lied and said "I took them down last week..." she was embarased she had not noticed. Then she asked "why?" I said "I think I made my point..." and that was the end of that.
But I also never played the "look at all the woman he has been with game..." that never seemes to hold any water for me.
OH: and 'sexual preference' weird term that is. I take it as what you like to do sexualy. not who with. "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

I always liked artists who were considered "so gay" even if they weren't, in such an ignorant context, so naturally I love Prince. I'm bi though more towards the straight side, though I never really admitted it till a few years ago and don't advertise it, though I knew when I was in my formative years before knowing of same-sex attraction. You're not confused are you? Prince's Sarah

^ I'm not confused. I'm bisexual.
Just want to know how much other fans have thought about this issue and how honest they investigate the issue. 99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

It wouldn't change anything for me. It would just confirm what I already knew all along. Andy is a four letter word.

The question would be better targeted towards fans of Luther Vandross or Johnny Mathis. Did it matter that a romance song was being sung by a gay man?
I think Elton John is where people stopped caring about whether or not a singer is gay or straight, but I'm talking about in the 80s,when he finally admitted he was gay and not bisexual.
I think more people are comfortable coming out in the media. Not a lot of people were shocked about Ricky Martin.
If he was to come out, people would be going "publicity stunt" first. Then they'd go "so what about all those songs you wrote?" But they'd also go "that explains why you didn't have relationships that worked."
Steven Tyler admitted in his book he had a gay experience. Good question to ask an Aerosmith fan if they think differently about him. Considering he's a sex and drug addict and is pretty uninhibited, it didn't exactly shock people. They just went, " yawn... just like Jagger".

i ..right...you dont really think he is gay..do you ?... ...i think its safe to say that if prince was gay...we would know by now...i think prince is 100 per cent hetrosexual but ...in saying that...he is totally comfortable with his feminine side and has shown that in a number of his songs...most notably in ' if i was your girlfriend ' ....he will happily court the ' is he ..isnt he ' as he did in some of his early songs but i am convinced he is only interested in fine looking women... . and if he ever did come out and say he has had more cock than a hooker....it wouldnt bother me in the slighest because...for me...its all about the music...always has been...always will be... . the music... .

^ I don't think he's that comfortable with it, there's a fair bit of internal conflict with the ol' purple princess leia.

. . i think its him just messing about...i think the metrosexual image he had in his early career was mainly to draw attention to myself...i think it was mainly an act with the black pants and flasher macks....i wouldnt be worried if i was in prince's company that he would try it on with me....i KNOW he is a hetrosexual....no doubt here... . .

Well considering I fell for him when I thought he was gay, him being gay wouldn't be the issue.
