Is Bambi Lisa Coleman?

After jamming out to Prince's second album, I was reading through the credits and saw that Prince thanked Bambi.

Now of course we all know Bambi is a lesbian and Prince is fiending to get to her.."It's better with a man".... This is not long after Prince formed his road band, so was Lisa hanging

around knowing Gayle Chapman was soon to be on the outs?

It's been rumored that Prince and Lisa had a quick fling and Prince was really digging her, hence the other great tune that's unreleased "Lisa". What are people's thoughts on who the mysterious "Bambi" is?

Lisa joined the band in Spring of 1980. Bambi was recorded a year earlier.

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

Depends on how long he knew Lisa prior to her joining The Revolution...

Like others have said, Bambi was pre-Lisa.

I will say, I always imagined Bambi to be black - maybe that's just my personal fantasy I dunno eek

"Mother?"

"Yes Lisa"

"Is the forest warm enough?"

"Yes Lisa"

"Is Thumper ready to play?"

"Yes Lisa"

I doubt it, but we can all assume or believe what we want. Prince digging Lisa that much? just doesnt seem to float with me, Plus it was recorded a year earlier, I always pictured Bambi, being someone he knew breifly, who had amazing "bambi eyes" a term used to describe someone w/big deep allurig eyes

But aye who knows

Hmm ... Never thought of that, Lisa could have been the influence of the song or someone 'like' Lisa

When you say.... fling.... It's insinuating Prince and Lisa Coleman had sex, which I really doubt. It's more along the lines of Prince being attracted to Lisa and trying to woo her, but it not working out because she was a lesbian and had a girlfriend already.

Is "Bambi" about Lisa? Of course not. The story is tried and true - a man coming to terms with his masculinity in the face of homosexuality. The egotism displayed in the song is sort of its own commentary about the sad state of heteronormativity. Whether Prince made this commentary on purpose or not is up for grabs because he surely wouldn't want people to think he was terribly obtuse like the song suggests.

In the world of someone like Prince at the time, it was only a matter of time before he would really encounter a situation like the one he wrote about if he hadn't already.

^ I heard that rumor about "I Wanna Be Your Lover," but never about this song, so who knows? It could be true. One thing about SOME of Prince's songs is that they'll leave you just wondering what the fuck he's talking about or to.

I have no idea who this is about, but if I had to pick a guess, I would say Lisa. It does sound plausible.

"I never want to stop singing this song!" Prince in Montreal, 12/2/11, just before performing Purple Rain

No, Bambi isn't about Lisa Coleman. That song was recorded long before she joined Prince's band. Lisa wasn't even on the "Purple Radar" until after she applied for the keyboardist job Gayle Chapman vacated. She was working as a shipping clerk & piano teacher in her hometown of L.A. in 1980, when a friend who was a secretary for Prince's LA management team mentioned there was an opening and she should apply. Lisa submitted a tape, was flown out to Minneapolis and the rest is history. cool

But I can see why folks would assume because both Lisa and the fictional Bambi are attractive lesbians. smile

Lisa did move in with Prince briefly. So that left the door open 4 anything 2 happen. As beautiful as Lisa was, any man would have tried 2 have her back then...& Prince may have succeeded only 2 find out about Wendy later..

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

rolleyes Prince is only saying (singing) aloud the same thing that all straight men who've fallen for a gay woman are thinking: "Why can't/won't she be with me?" I don't think he's implying that he can "turn" her; he's just frustrated he can't attract her. I can relate.
