Prince's Purple Telecaster sold at auction Not necessarily new news, but I always wondered about this guitar and would marvel over it when the rarely seen video for "America" would get played. Today I did a Yahoo! search on it, and found it was sold at an auction over the summer.
Does anyone know who made the guitar and what the specs on it were (wood type, pickups, active electronics?, designer, etc.)? Does anyone have any good pictures of this guitar? Thanks! http://www.chortle.co.uk/...rince.html http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/h...065168.stm http://www.cobdenclub.co....chive.html

Not saying it isn't authentic, but I've never seen that guitar before. "You've got to believe in something... why not believe in me?"

It's authentic. The auction house that sold it is a fairly prestigious one inthe U.K. If you get a chance to see the video for "America", he WAILS on it in the video, which was recorded live in France. In the book 'Prince: A Pop Life', there's a photo from the video too. Those are the only times I've seen it. I've never seen since it used otherwise, or read any documentation on it - which makes sense if it's been in Sheila E's possesion all this time. I'd love to see some good photos of it. Who's got 'em?

Ed Byrne is an Irish comedian, a very funny guy and a huge fan of Prince. I've seen him live a few times.
He even brought the guitar on UK television on a morning chat show, and was playing it a bit (badly) and they had a proper guitarist showing him how it's done
