Sign O The Times & Gett Off
Yesterday I found myself singing the Sign O The Times lyrics over the Gett Off beat.
And then it struck me: beat and vocal lines in the verses are veeeeeeeeeeeery similar.

I can't believe it's been 20 years since gett off was released. I remember it like it was yesterday. Hearing them announce that they would play the new prince single, rushing a tape into the deck and recording it, then listening to it 50 times in a row. 20 years!   and true love lives on lollipops and crisps | |

They're both based on a rather monotonous repetition of a single note with only slight variations introduced to the pitch here and there (if I recall correctly, the transcription books don't even include any variations to the pitch). It's just the way Prince "raps". I just tried it myself and you'd have to change the flow from SOTT [i] quite a lot to fit "Gett Off", so I can't say I'd agree with you. | |

Haha... No, Spooky, the songs don't sound the same. That's why it took me so long to notice it.

I remember anticipating the VIDEO to "Gett Off" because people were looking to see if he could get over the embarrassment of "Grafitti Bridge". I actually went crazy when "Gett Off" did debut. Same when "Cream" came out. | |
