Does anyone know the current figures for Prince's albums in terms of sales? I would guess that Purple Rain would be his most successful, but I'm not positive. Also since 20ten was given away with a newspaper could those figures never be known? Thanks!

any report on sales figures are kind of wrong.this is why,most only count just the albums that hit a certain mark and have been certified.the problem is if the sales are not audited then the certifications stay the same.example dirty mind is certified gold.chances are it has sold over a million copies but have yet to be audited.the recordings are not automatically certified.on top of all that if they are not certified they are not usually counted in collected totals.prince probably has about 6 lps that have sold anywhere from 250,00- 450,00 copies but becuase they didnt make past the 500,000 mark and no certication they go uncounted

80 to 100 million...I wonder if that's just the US totals. It's gotta be more than that worldwide - although hard to count. I, alone, have bought thousands of official vinyl records, tapes, cd's. Not to mention vhs tapes and dvd's.

Even a couple 8-Track tapes. I guess that makes me ol' school huh?

It would be interesting to get world wide figures, as most sales of his pre 1985 catalogue were in the USA, but the albums Parade through to Symbol sold more copies in Britain and Europe than the USA (Except Diamonds and Pearls) but Sign and Lovesexy were huge sellers in places like Germany and Sweden for instance. Also its hard to guess accurate figures as his back catalogue to 1988 is always selling ( I think Purple Rain moves 250k a year on average, and even Dirty Mind has sold more copies since 1990, than on its initial release - people like me who went out and bought the back catalogue in the early 90s).

I will throw real caution to the wind and guess sales of Prince albums worldwide must top 100 million and may have even sold as many as 150 million. This would include complimations (As basic as it is, 2001's the very best of Prince has sold several million copies worldwide, as it serves the casual listener and people who just want Kiss and Purple Rain on the same record so well). Even I got a copy of that disc for my 30th birthday in 2006, along with a copy of SOTT movie.

But seriously, he must be near the top of most albums sold list.
