Linn Drum live
Was it hard to play with a drum machine during those 1982-1984 days? Prince programmed linn on the record but was he doing it for live performances also or was it Bobby?
Prince could used it original beats from the 1999 and Purple Rain but tour versions were extended and different . So who managed the Linn Drum or L-1M in a live settings?

A perfectly legitimate and a good question. Live, back in the Revolution days, live video indicates it was Bobby Z. controlling the LM-1 for pre-programmed beats. He also had an electronic kit with Linn sounds programmed into it. Real cymbals were used. Pay no heed to the eye roller. I'm just saying...

It's not a legitimate question considering it is common knowledge that Prince had a custom drum set made for Bobby to imulate the sound of the Linn Drum machine. That is Prince 101. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

I know that some parts were indeed live drums and sometime the snare would be electronic. However in diffe Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

Dogsinthethree thank you
I thought Bobby only hit the cymbals during 1999/Purple Rain tour and everything else was programmed?

So you get to decide what is and what isn't common knowledge, do you?
Does your ego really require you to belittle other people rather than just offering the information you have in the spirit of sharing knowledge?
But I guess that's not a legitimate question either. Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

Now it's common knowledge that you are a haughty prick. I'm just saying...

Actually, this is not correct. I used to have an extensive interview in a magazine with a guy in LA who was hired to build a custom setup so the Simmons pads could trigger the Linn directly. When you heard the Linn sounds, you were hearing the Linn, not something else.

Wah clavinet you are so right .so who did that programing in the end?

I think you should get off your high horse and quit sounding like a pompous ass.
Not every Prince fan in the world is a walking encyclopedia of purple knowledge, and as such, it WAS a legitimate question.
Grow up. | |

At the risk of getting an eyeroll too: What kind of drum machine was used on the Lovesexy tour?

This sounds more correct to me.
A perfectly legitimate question, for that matter.

But everyone does not have that information. Common knowledge would only be if you know those technical things and look into. You just educated a lot of Prince fans cause eveyone does not know. And remember there are new Prince fans all the time, who are just geting into those years music/shows

The Linn drum was used 4 Sheila E as well during SOTT/Lovesexy shows and a lot of drum programming, especially where Sheila E was upfront with Prince or playing other percussions.
