"Two New Songs On Latest Prince 'Best Of' Collection"

"NPGMC, Join Now", the funky new uptempo song Prince debuted on his website at exactly 7:11PM yesterday will be one of two new songs on a collection of "forgotten gems" due July 11.

The extended version of the previously released "NPGMC, Join" is one of two new tracks on the still-untitled single-disc. It will also include the unreleased NPGMC intro "Gonna Git Ur $" featuring a comedic intro by Tracy Morgan. Both the intro and outro were written in Toronto last month. The set will also include forgotten gems from the artist's years on Warner Bros Records and recent tracks that were previously only available via his "members only" music club at http://www.npgmc.com/

The album which comes in at exactly 71:11 features a tracklisting that includes:

During the press conference announcing the album's release, Prince was asked about the significance of the numbers 1, 7, 11, and 17.

"Well, I love Slurpees, so I go to 7-11 a lot in my Purple Prowler. I made sure the album is exactly 71 minutes and 11 seconds in length. It is my tribute to the convenience store chain. If it weren't for music, I'd probably be working in one."

"I plan on hiring the same video director that did the video for Justin Timberlake's "Like I Love You" to shoot a video for the first single "Right The Wrong." When asked why, Prince went on to add how he "just loved the dance routine in front of the 7-11. It would be perfect for a reunion of the NPG!" When Jon Bream asked if this meant he would rehiring Sonny Thompson, Michael Bland and so forth, Prince responded, "No, the Gameboyz, fool!"

When asked if the album would be released as part of the 2003 membership to his online music club the NPGMC, Prince said yes. "It will be an exclusive release between July 4th and the 11th. Members would be able to pre-order the disc for $50. With shipping being $21.11, it comes out to exactly $71.11." When asked about the abnormally high price, Prince said that the members of the NPGMC shouldn't worry. He has plenty of "Newpower Soul" Tour t-shirts to send with the CD.

Prince also announced that he'd signed an exclusive distribution deal with 7-11 to sell the CD at their convenience stores. However, it is rumoured that the CD will be given away with the purchase of a Big Tofu Hot Dog and a Jumbo Size Slurpee.

When someone in the press corps jokingly asked if there would be a "Worst Of" tour to follow the release, Prince replied, "No, that was the Newpower Soul tour. That was in 1998. Someone give that man a late pass!"

Prince's attorney Jerry Blackwell announced in a separate release that fans of the artist are welcome to promote the album by hosting MP3s on their personal websites. Prince reportedly was originally against this idea but when Blackwell informed him that in regards to this collection, there was no way he could sue for artistic integrity, or other reasons as he had in the past. However, it is believed that none of the tracks are in danger of being hosted, much less played.
