Creating the creative Prince playlist Hi fellow orgers!
I remember the first time I heard the acoustic (maybe very first!?) version of Alphabet St.
Only having heard the Lovesexy version I was intrigued by the nakedness of this outtake; just Prince and the guitar - and yet the two versions made total sense to me. And I felt for a second I got a mini insight into his creative and visionary mind...
I'm hoping on your help on this one: I'm want to create a playlist of Prince songs based on the different (and most interesting) versions of the songs out there (outtakes, studio, live, bootleg, etc), fx.:
Alphabet St.: Acoustic / Lovesexy / Indigo Nights U're Gonna See Me: One Nite Alone Piano / MPLSOUND Eye Love U But I Don't Trust U Anymore: Rave in2 the joy fantastic / live at Montreux 2009
Looking forward to your input! Thanks! Oh, blue light...

I'm curious about these you listed. "Cruising down the Highway" is "Can't Stop"? And where is the demo version of DMSR? What boot?
And what is the power trio version of Empty Room? What boot?
For Empty Room, I first heard the "I'll Do Anything" movie demo. Then I heard the revamped Revolution version, and then the 2001 era version.
On "We Can Funk" there is the solo version with only Prince circulating that was eventually revamped into the Graffiti Bridge version, I'd say that, then the "The Dawn" musical version where it is part of a suite (Girl, Can't Stop), then the full on George Clinton + Prince version. Yep, according to the 4DaFunk's "Playtime" boot info. And I'm inclined to agree because of the guitar playing which is reminisent of "Can't Stop".
The "DMSR" demo is the one from The Work Vol.1(CD 2)
The trio boot, is the London's aftershow from 2007(where he got backed by Cora and Josh(??)). This is a great version btw, he plays the guitar on this instead of the piano. Its titled simply that, The Power Trio
"We Can Funk" has 3 versions, both of the ones you mentioned(Graffiti Bridge & Dream Factory) and then there's the one from either Work It 2.0 Vol.1 or 2, I'm not sure which. The one I'm talking about is very short and it starts at the middle of one of the verses, it sounds like it was recorded right after the 1999 sessions.

Now that I've looked back on it...
Actually the first version of "We Can Funk" can be found in Work It 2.0 Volume 1 CD 4

Thanks everyone! This is SUPER! I'm discovering songs in a new way
DMSR has never really been a favorite of mine - I don't dislike - I just thought there were other more interesting and funky songs that did it for me. But now I'm listening to all these different takes and it's growing on me! The BBC version from 1993 is really uptempo and fierce-sounding to me Oh, blue light...

Never heard this version, I got research to do of my own as well so thanks I personally can't get enough of it. It has one of the nastiest basslines ever, not just Prince songs. Not to mention, I got a weak spot for call & response songs(as long as they're not over done ).

Hmmm... If I remember correctly this version was from a BBC broadcast on Sept 7 (my birthday! ), Is has a lot of drums, rythm guitar and horns - not so much bass - but call and response! Yea, check it out! Oh, blue light...
